I had not heard of this program until I read Gina Loudon article "Now Available: Free "Obama" Phones." There are also websites called Obamaphone.net It appears that Obama has started a program of free cell phones. And apparently there are over 20 millions phones already out there. Snopes.com and other sites are saying that this is as extension of existing programs there have been out there since the Reagan years called the univeral service fund. Yet it Obama is taking all of the credit. They claim that there will be a discounted/free internet available soon, too. This program has reached over 1.2 billion dollars in cost. It is funded through the FCC surcharge on your phone bill. So are not only paying for your own cell phone, you are paying for others too; and Obama is getting the credit. Talk about spreading the wealth around. This is total tyranny.

To clarify, these are phones provided to the disadvantaged and the elderly. You have to already be receiving assistance like food stamps or SSI or be living at or under the poverty level to qualify. It's not available in all states. It may be gaining ground, but that's probably because more people are finding out about it. I know that Obama spends money like it was water, but I do believe that this is an overall good program. I got my mother's phone bill reduced through the same program when she didn't have enough money to pay it. Like any other program, it can be taken advantage of, but it sure helps some of those who really need it. I will gladly pay a few cents each month if it helps someone like my mother to have a phone.

So... if this is Obama taking credit for a government program, why is it a .net address and not a .gov address, let alone whitehouse.gov? More to the point, obamaphone.net resolves to IP address 173.236.140.139. According to http://bgp.he.net/ip/173.236.140.139#_whois, that address is owned by New Dream Network in Brea, CA. It seems to me that if President Obama was looking to take credit, he'd link it to the campaign or the administration, rather than making it look like a hoax so flimsy that only the most gullible wouldn't pick up on it.

Even Time magazine has the story at moneyland.time.co/2012/02/08/how-to-get-government-to-cover-your-cell-phone-bills/ Believe the Obama campaign is liking this.

People just be quiet and work an extra shift so they can have everything you have too. According to the US Census the American poor are better off than most middle class Europeans. As a matter of fact the American Soldier makes less that a person on welfare. I am getting sick of always having to give to the poor, do this for the poor, we now feed children year round because the parents are spending the food stamp money on other things. If you want to end poverty then make it uncomfortable. In my community the poor have better houses than most of the farmers, and factory workers, they eat better than most other people in the community (between $250 and $375 a month for food for a family of two and free lunch and breakfast for the children). I have no sympathy for most of the poor people.

Cell phones are not just a way of communication but a wifi tracker of where you are as long as you have it on or near you. You can call me paranoid but its already been proven during the Bush years that the government was keeping tabs on everyone phones and internet when he signed an executive order to eliminate a law suits and moved to protect the service providers who were being sued by consumer advocacy groups. This is more than just paying for others phones this is Americans paying for our own slavery and the system that will spy on us 24/7. Having it shut off is not enough either they can send signals to your phone to have it turn on now. Don't believe me call your service provider and tell them you can't find your phone and that you turned it off and lost it in your home. They will remotely turn your phone on and page it for you. "They claim that there will be a discounted/free internet available soon, too." - So much for the internet being the last free place on earth.
