I keep a dream journal! But you probably remember that. Really what it is, and syramoon already gave a pretty good answer but I'll say it anyway, is a notebook/bound journal that I keep by my bed. As soon as I wake up, I write down all of the details of the dream that I can remember. Every element, no matter how silly or seemingly insignificant. I try to write in first-person present tense because that's a dream-journaling tip that I picked up from a few lucid dreaming websites. (Instead of, "I walked down the hall and found a dragon." it would be "I walk down the hall and find a dragon.") The idea behind that is to put yourself back in the moment you were dreaming and you will likely remember even more details. You can do whatever you find comfortable to write through, any journaling can really help with dream recall. I imagine keeping an art dream journal would be much the same, but instead of writing the dream down you would draw pictures from it. Perhaps distinct images that you remember, or maybe a storyboard of the whole dream. It may help to write down the portions of the dream that you remember not pictured as well.

Anything that feels comfortable to you I guess. I find that even writing something down in my dream journal each day keeps my dream recall going strong and getting stronger. It's better to write lots, but sometimes I just don't have the patience or the time. And maybe I didn't even like the dream very much. lol I hope it goes well for you and you see lots of pretty pictures in your dreams!

Very interesting. I have never heard of this but want to learn. I have dreams that "come true"..not exactly "true" but clues or show me something. I'll never forget one that I had.. my daughter was on vacation and asked me to check her apt for a delivery. I did and nothing, Nothing left at the office. I called UPS and they said the delievered it...I went and nothing on her patio or front door. That night I had a dream where her x-husband called me and wanted me to meet him at her apt to talk about something. I went to her apt, and to the patio and he was sitting on this patio chair (that she really did have on her patio) and then he picked up the chair and moved it. And through my mind I kept asking myself (in the dream) why does he want to meet me at her apt? Why not his or my house or somewhere else...why her apt and how does he have keys for it? Next morning, I woke, and kept thinking about that chair. It was so strong I finally went back to her apt and to her patio...and looked at that chair...even went and moved it like he did and there under the chair, nearly out of sight, was her package! The deliver guy tossed it up on the patio, and it slide under the chair and just looking under it as I did..I couldn't see it...the chair had ato be moved to see it. If it hadn't been for that dream...we'd never found the package! Things like this happen often in my dreams. What is a dream journal and how do you do it and use it?

wow, that's amazing. How you could have a dream and find the package, i am pretty sure i have never had any dreams that i can remember that really meant anything. I have been getting nightmares and sometimes i worry about what they might mean but, i havent figured anything out. Thats part of the reason i want to make a dream journal.

There was another dream where I dreamed he said he was going to be leaving town for about 3 weeks....2 weeks later..he got arrested and was in jail for 3 weeks until he could make bail and get out! I always think that I'll remember the dreams in the morning and write them down then, but most of the time I don't...or just remember a little bit and figure what's the use! Maybe I should start writing them down when I wake and see what happens!

I always keep my dream journal by the bed. I don't keep a dream 'art' journal so to speak, because I'm more of a writer than I ever was an artist. And the few sketches in my journal are horrible, most of them will be because the most important thing about a dream journal, is to record it as soon as you wake up, before you do anything else. If someone were going to record their dreams in art form, what I would suggest is to keep a dream journal beside you bed, and when you first wake up write down every little detail you can remember, even if it seems pointless. Then later you could take it and turn it into art if it inspired you.

that's a really good idea, that way you can write down what happen before you forget. I like making art journals that's what gave me the art dream journal idea.

I took an art class once with a popular artist in my area. She kept a dream art journal. It was nothing complicated to learn. It was simply, she wrote down what she dreamed in a journal with blank pages. And if she remembered anything visually she would sketch that. Sometimes she just used colors as in an abstract feeling of the dream.

hi musicluv4 life! when i worked in an office a lot of the clinicians there like to use journaling as a therapeutic tool...i have tried journaling but when i write things that are depressing it makes me feel worse depressed than when i started...i like the idea of the dream art journal, as i have a passion for art and painting..also, if you are using it to aid in depression or anxiety, i think sometimes it comes more naturally to draw than write...it would just depend on the person i think...i have learned from studying and reading that art therapy is very affective as when a person uses art they are able to tap into their subconsious (unconsiously) and this helps the brain to heal itself...hope you find the write journal and journaling for you, music4life! i think the important thing is to be able to have a creative outlet....

Yeah, i agree with you. I have anxiety issues, so i started journaling to help with that. I like to do a mix of art and writing both.
