What can I eat or drink to gain weight?

India

I am in my mid 20s, 6 feet tall and as skinny as I could possibly be. I eat three regular meals a day and nothing really helps me in putting on some weight. So, I tried going online, searched on google, all I see people telling about how you should increase the calorie intake, how my meals should be balanced by right amount of fat, protein and what not. I tried almost everything suggested, nothing is working out for me. Can you suggest something?

hi ronniboi! when the psychoartist and mr. psychoartist were in your age group we were also naturally skinny and tall....however, we have now hit the over the age of forty mark and the skinniness is all in the past...so i guess i may be saying that don't worry you will gain weight eventually and it will be very hard to get rid of, or you might not like it!....maybe you should just enjoy how you are, because lots of people go on weird or expensive diets and engage in horrible exercise programs to lose weight! you may just have a super fast metabolism, which may be a good thing..or i suppose you could find some kind of protein drinks, or drinks like ensure to supplement your diet...eat lots of ice cream, bread, and peanutbutter....

I have the same problem. I can't seem to put on weight, no matter how much I eat, no matter what, or what hour I take my last meal. A friend of mine recommended me some pills with fish oil, and she said they work for her. I can't find such pills in my country, and so she will bring them to me this summer. I will let you know if they work.

I think allopathic pill may do more harm to your body,in the long run. What is your weight? There is this product called Endura Mass, did you try it?I have'nt tried it,you should read some independent reviews about such products before trying it.

I am much under weight... I haven't tried any supplement before, just tried to eat a little more. That does not help, either. However, I am used to the way I am, and I don't really care if I can't gain weight, though I would like to. I had a few kilos more some years ago, but many things happened and I lost weight again.

I'm very similar to you, and my husband is the same way. He's six feet tall and still really skinny. We're in our late 20s, though. One suggestion for you is to eat a lot of steak! One steak can have thousands of calories. One thing my doctor told me is that I burn calories quicker than I take them in, which is why I cannot gain weight very quickly. Be thankful for your fast metabolism, though! People tell me that eventually goes away. However, I have yet for that to happen to me! The more calories you eat, the better. I try to eat several meals per day. I start eating as soon as I get to work and have something every couple hours. Are you always hungry or do the three meals per day work for you? I always hear that several meals per day is better because it actually keeps up with your metabolism. Try eating every couple hours and see how that works. It doesn't have to be full meals or anything. It can be a handful of chips or an apple or something like that. I know how it feels to eat three large meals and feel like you'll never gain weight. I hope you are able to find a resolution for the issue!

You're very welcome! I hope that snacking throughout the day becomes a healthy habit for you. That's worked for me in gaining weight in the past. It's kind of sad, but I panic when I don't have some kind of snack or food stash nearby at all times! I never know when I'll get hungry, so I always try to have something handy to eat.

It is not very often that I eat throughout the day with a gap of an hour or two but sometimes I overtly eat and that is just sometimes. I Can have something or the other in between the three regular meals. Thanks for the suggestion.

Some time ago, I was wanting to do the same thing. I asked a pharmacist friend of mine what to do and he suggested I get some Nutrament. I drank this stuff in addition to my regular meals. It worked and I got up to a desired weight. I still use it a few times a week for maintenance. You might want to try it. http://www.nestle-nutrition.com/Products/Product.aspx?ProductId=3f90eba8-f5c3-4969-9c24-17617347d168

I so wish Nutrament was available in my region. To what I understand it is more or less like an energy drink, I wonder if any other energy drink would do, if not Nutrament. Thanks for your suggestion though.

Do regular basic exercises like push ups and sit ups for at least 5 minutes a day. It is best done fresh from bed in the morning. After that, have a glass of cold milk, an egg and two or more pieces of bananas. That is how I gain weight before. Don't believe eating a lot of fatty foods will help because it will just affect your heart. Do it slow but sure, in a natural less expensive manner. After around 3 to 6 months you will see the result.

First of all, I wish I had that problem! Lol. I'm just kidding, I know it must bother you for some reason or you would not be trying to change it. The only thing I know of that will make people gain weight is eating right before bed because then it just sits in your stomach and your not burning it off. That is one thing I have heard all my life so I don't eat right before bed. Sorry that is the only thing I know of. I hope it helps though! =)

I work for about 20 hours a week. Rest of the time, I surf, I watch movies, I eat, I sleep. I guess it makes all the more sense that a lot of food that I intake, is not burnt the way it should.

Be happy that you don't have to carry around several hundred pounds of excess weight. As long as your doctor says you are healthy, forget about your weight, or lack thereof.

Maybe it is not the food that you are eating but your actual physical make up. Your genes can play a big part in your weight as well as your diet. You also could be not assimilating food properly so you may need to get blood tests or hair mineral analysis to see what is going on. You may also just need to wait it out until you reach your late twenties or early 30's to gain the weight you want. I was and still am pretty thin, but I started putting on weight without any alteration to my diet or lifestyle at around 28-30 years of age. Then in my mid 30's I gave up meat and dairy and lost it again. I am not as tall as you and am pretty small boned, so I am pretty happy with how my weight is. Another thing that you could try is doing exercise with weights. Build up your muscles instead of trying to gain weight via fat. Muscles weigh more than fat so will make you heavier the more you work out.

Okay, the first suggestion that I would make for you is to have a complete metabolic panel ran on your blood. The reason for that being is that you could have some metabolic problems that are making it impossible for your to gain weight. If you find that you don't have any kind of metabolic problems, then the best suggestion that I could make for you is to increase the amount of healthy fats that you are taking in your diet. Some healthy but fatty foods are nuts and also avocado.

Before you've try to gain weight, you have to check your health with doctor about your body condition.Ask the doctor about how you're supposed to eat or not eat, drink or don't drink. If it's okay with your health, try to practice some exercise everyday such as : swimming, jogging,or ride bicycle.Your metabolism body will good in process and every time you feel hungry and wanna eat.

Hi there Ronnie, I think it is best to sick professional advise from nutritionist. You seemed to have a very fast metabolism...that even do you eat a variety of foods still you couldn't get fatter. And I should say that from that professional help...you will be able to have that kind of diet and exercise that is really appropriate for you. I have friends who are skinny but I haven't heard them complaining about it...maybe they are but it's just that I haven't hear them talk about it. Have a great day and happy mylotting.

We have the same sentiment. Gaining weight is my problem too. If your being skinny is healthy i guess their's nothing to worry about. Maybe your metabolism is so active and fast. I tried having a physical exercise to gain weight. I went to gym twice a week for three months. Gym has a gaining weight program. You should try it.

Since you had already tried everything and all sorts of food in order to gain weight, but still unsuccessful. I can't really think of any one method that will help you to gain weight again this time. It is probably due to your biological make up and low metabolic rate you will never put on weight no matter what you eat. You may want to try to eat more instead of what to eat as a last resort for putting on weight. Try to go for the biggest size whenever you order food or prepare your meal, always try to eat more than you can take in, so that the extra calories can build up inside your body and become additional weight for you. May be it work out well for you this time.

Back when my husband was trying to put on weight, he started adding a protein powder to his milk. It was added calories to the milk he was already eating and added muscle instead of fat because of the added protein. The one thing he was warned about was to drink extra water as he took the extra protein.
