My daughter was diaganosed with IC. It is a bladder disease that she will have for the rest of her life and will be on medication for it forever. They say it's not hereditary but my mother has it also. We think it skips a generation everytime. I don't know the longer word for It but it is shortened to IC. It is also very painful

She seems to have it under control right now with the meds. Every once in awhile she had trouble with the pain. she doesn't tell me everything. She lives on her own and is now talking about going to college to become a nurse. I'm so proud of her. Thank you

glad to hear she has it under control. just remember this is a condition that continues to get worse, especially if the diet is not under control. Therefore, the better she eats, etc. the longer she can live with it in at least a little comfort. Mine started out not that bad, however it has progressively gotten worse and now the meds, etc. do not help. Has she had surgery to stretch the bladder? This helps with the pain as well. I had one three years ago, however, I believe it is time for me to have it done again. If you want to go ahead and check out the site I gave, or tell her about it. It really gives a lot of advice, help, etc.

Hi - I am sorry to hear that your daughter has Interstitial Cystitis. I too am a sufferer and I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. I am the only one in my family that has it. My urologist told me that about half of his patients that have I.C. also have Fibromyalgia, so he believes that the two disorders are related. Having I.C. Disease is like having a bladder infection all of the time, but worse because it never goes away. Usually when the disease starts it is worse and then later the symptoms and pain can wane. When I was first diagnosed I could hardly walk, the pain and pressure in my abdomen and pelvic area was so severe. I also would urinate every 10 - 15 minutes. Now, three years after being diagnosed, I always know the problem is there but it has become manageable for me. I hope everything works out for your daughter. I feel so bad for anyone who suffers from this. If she ever needs to talk, I have a blog that she can check out or you can contact me on here. Take care. My blog is: http://fightingfatigue.typepad.com

I am so glad she can talk to someone. If she ever gets a computer I will give her your address. It would probably help her out to have someone other then her grandmother to talk to. If I had known that what was causing her pain when she was young. Took her in a couple of times and all they said was she had bladder infection. put her on meds and it seemed to help for awhile. Now she has all kinds of meds to take that are really expensive. I hope they find a way to cure this for all of you.

thanks. I just wish doctors would get their heads out of there butts and figure this stuff out. You would think that as doctors they would be able to figure it out sooner what is wrong with a person.

I had bladder infections and UTIs all of the time as a child. My urologist believes that I have always had I.C. Please don't feel bad. As a mother, you did what you knew to do at the time. There are so many illnesses that are such mysteries.

IC is Interstitial cystitis,IC is a chronic bladder condition that can cause pain and other symptoms. People with IC have an inflamed or irritated bladder wall. This inflammation can lead to: * scarring and stiffening of the bladder; * less bladder capacity (the bladder is able to hold less urine); * pinpoint bleeding in the bladder lining. In rare cases, ulcers form in the bladder lining. There are the causes of interstitial cystitis? No one knows what causes interstitial cystitis. Because IC varies so much in symptoms and severity, most researchers believe that it may actually be several diseases. One theory being studied is that IC is an autoimmune response following a bladder infection. Another theory is that there are substances in urine which are irritating to people with IC.Interstitial cystitis is different from urinary tract infections, which are caused by bacteria and can be treated with antibiotics. Studies have shown that antibiotics are not useful for treating IC.

I've heard of this. My sister has it. It's called Interstitial Cystitis. From what she's told me it feels pretty much like a constant bladder infection. I can definitely feel for her and your daughter, having had constant bladder infections myself it doesn't sound like much fun at all. Does the medication she's on stop the symptoms? Here's a link for anyone wanting to know a little bit more about this. http://www.4woman.gov/faq/intcyst.htm

Yes they seem to help her but still gets really sharp pain every once in awhile. It wouldn't be so bad but the meds she's on cost a fortune. She has medical insurance but even with it it's expensive. Thank you

I have IC (Interstitial Cystitis). I am 27 and have had it since I was 19. I am not on any meds and do not have alot of pain from it. I just have the urgency and frequency - when I was first diagnosed I was urinating as much as 50 times a day but have not got it down to about 10-15 which does not too often affect my daily life. The doctors put me on many different meds at first which made ma worse and also made me depressed, made me constantly anxious and gave me panic attacks to the point where I became agoraphobic. I am now free of all medication and own a video store as well as do several other jobs and volunteer in different positions. I was also able to get my bachelors degree. Monitor her diet - I would also recommend getting her off the meds but that is just me. The meds, if they don't harm the bladder more, will often give you side effects that are worse than the problem themselves...any more info just reply and I will do my best to help you in any way I can...

I have it, and the best way to describe it is like having a bladder infection all the time. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter, and I hope she's doing well. There are a number of medical trials that seem promising out there, so it might not be long for some better treatment. On the upside, it is something that has been known to dissappear in some people, although doctors aren't too sure as to why this might happen.

I also have IC (Interstitial Cystitis) along with other diseases associated with it. It is a very hard disease to live with because what won't make you flare one day will the next. It is different for each individual on what they can/cannot eat, drink, do,...& it can vary each day for that person also. They say it's not hereditary but most of us know family members who have it also. They just don't know what causes it so they won't say it's hereditary....There is no cure. You will have your ups & downs. One minute you will be feeling pretty ok the next out of the blue, in a ball in the fetal position. My husband often says I look fine or don't look in pain BUT I'm very good at hiding it. He knows when I'm not able to handle the pain because those are the times I'm in bed or curled up, walking funny,.... The IC-Network site is a great site to get info, to hear what others are going through, have done to live with this disease,....I highly recommend it.
