Do you or have ever attended one of these? although i am not American, we have had a few American civil war re-enactments here in Canada. (i am about an hour or so from the US border at Niagara Falls). i love history and am interested in the American civil war and have read books and seen movies on the subject. i am also going to be going to a war of 1812 re-enactment as i live near one of the battle fields and it is the 200th anniversary of the war. it should be fun. i did go with my daughter's class once to a battle field of that war and it was quite interesting.

I have never been to one of those before, but I think that would be interesting to see history re=enacted. When I was younger I would go to the state museum which had Victorian rooms showing where people had dinner and what it was like to eat during those periods. It would have been fun to sit in that room and experience it.

When we first moved out here they use to have the battle of Saint Clair, but then they stopped and I don't know why. :( Only my first three children saw it, my youngest has not and I would love for him to see something like that.

I've never been to one,but I had heard before of "The Sealed Knot",a UK based re-enactment group..and I'm not sure if it was going before or after "Braveheart" was filmed, but I understand there's a Highlander Battle re-enactment group too..

I was in the Sealed Knot the UK based English Civil War re-enactment society as a musketeer, and I can tell you it was going before Braveheart was filmed. In fact it was started in 1968 so it has a few years on Braveheart. There are many groups in the UK covering all periods of history from the Romans through to WWII and beyond.

I knew "The Sealed Knot" had been going for years before "Braveheart",it was the Scottish Highlander equivalent I wasn't sure of..but thanks for the additional knotty info!

I have been to two and really enjoyed them....I also love history and seeing these brings it into our present times as a reminder of what built out countries.

I worked for two years on Mackinac Island so got to see the reenactments a lot and I got to hear the canon every 20 minutes. Took forever to used to that! lol I agree with the above poster. This Island is beautiful and very rich in history. Being in Niagara, you are not that far. You should check it out. The Island participated in multiple wars. http://www.mackinac.com/content/general/history_highcliffes.html

I'd rather tour Whitehern or Dundurn, though in the 11 years I've lived here I haven't managed it once. Actually, I'm surprised there isn't more ballyhoo about it around here.

Yes, I have seen many history re-enactments. Most recently I was at Mackinac Island in Michigan, where they had people dressed up in historical garb and were shooting cannons so loudly, you could hear them from across the water. It is a beautiful, tourist site no cars, only horses and bicycles
