It is called "Salvia Hispanica L" and is sold as "BenVia Gold Seed" You can find it online and read about it. It is supposed to transform any food to a nutritional goldmine. I wonder if any of you have used it.. According to the newsletter that told about it it is one of the most beneficial foods we know, as it has good effect on our digestion, heart, arteries, blood pressure, sugar levels, joints and helps to lose weight.. It can be mixed with any food we like to eat, so we will still be able to enjoy some favorite foods we like!! I will do more research about it. It might be a solution for many who have a problem to follow a diet and others too of course. Please inform us if you know more about this super food..

I don't know about that. I just go with fruits and veggies. There are so many gimics, that I am afraid to believe. I would rather just eat natural foods.

Hi surveychick4. There is no food more natural than fresh sprouted seeds such as Salvia Mexicana (chia) and they are a tasty addition to any salad or sandwich.

This is a herb and has been used for hundreds of years or maybe even longer. Here is a link with a picture and some info. http://www.salviahispanica.com/ Thanks Ann for telling about the other names!

Chia! Many years ago we thought these seeds were only good for ornamental purposes, as they are the seeds we made chia pets from, but in recent years it has become more widely known that these sprouts are good food! Mine is a bull. The chia pet of today, however, seems to be the dinosaur, so in the link below please find a dino planted with your Salvia Hispanica L. http://nothing-but-chia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Chia-Dinosaur.jpg So, who says healthy food cannot also be art?

Thanks for the link so it has been used for art and decoration. A good thing is that the health benefits are known in this time too. Can you grow it indoors too? I have to find a place where I can buy the seeds for eating. Can you use the leaves too?

I have never grown it outdoors, only indoors myself. Yes, the tender young leaves are healthy and edible.

i have heard of many foods that do what you describe, this is just one. Sea Buckthorn was another, and Limu Moui was yet another. They are all good foods that support the rest of the foods, I think the Limu is the best, as it is seaweed, and not grown in nutritionally deprived soils, though your Salvia Hispanica L may be grown another way as well. I like the ones that you can just add to other foods, because then it is easier to eat enough of what you need. Sincerely and With Appreciation.

It seems that I have yet a lot to learn. There are so great things in the nature and probably many that are not discovered yet. Let's keep learning - who knows what we can find yet?

Yep. Chia seeds! I have been eating them for years. They have been long revered for their nutritional qualities in South America but have in recent years become very popular with vegans and health enthusiasts for their Omega 3 properties. I love to add them to smoothies as a thickener or just as a porridge, with fruit juice or almond milk. They soak up all of the liquid that they come in contact with so they have to be soaked in something before you eat them or else they will soak up all the moisture in your stomach. Just soaking them for ten to fifteen minutes is enough before you eat them.

Thanks, Bill for telling your experience - I will do some more research and see if it is available where I live. This kind of food must be good to add to many raw foods to make them extra interesting and tasty. What a great variation we have in all kinds of food when we learn to know the nature better.

One thing we can do, is to find out what oou thers think about it. Especially asking those who have eaten it. You can also do a search onlin and see what the information sites say. Why not see below the opinion of one person who is using it.
