Love yourself to love others

I think we have all heard the saying that you have to love yourself before you can love others. Why do you think that is? Is this a true statement? I've seen people on the brink of suicide, because they hated themselves so much, and yet they loved their kids so much, that they couldn't go through with it. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

You have a point right there. If you want to love others love yourself first because you will know how it feels and more important that you will be given a chance to learn on how important loving others are including yourself.

Yes, and also you will know how to love, and have more to share.

We need to love ourselves than giving to love others. Why? We need to love ourselves to live for a reason. If the people surround us suck the things we have, we may feel so broken beyond our expectations.

We can't give something that we don't have. When we take care of ourselves we are in a better position to love and help others. People do love others a whole lot like family and friends. And yet depression can get the better of a lot of individuals.

We should really have to love ourselves first before we love other and for other people to love us. Sometimes due to extreme love to other people we tend to forget to love ourselves and even sometimes lead to hurt and pain. Learning to love ourselves is really important for other to gain love and respect from other.

I think it is true because for me you can not able to love others if you dont love yourself. Before when I was young I always love others first before myself but I got hurt and the pain was very terrible because of loving them. Then I realized that i need to love myself first and more than anyone else so that if I got hurt again it will not be more painful like before.

For me the statement is true. I think loving yourself has something to do with how you will feel and treat yourself. If you love yourself, you can love others without the heavy and grudgy feelings within you. It makes you feel good and keep away you from feeling miserable.
