I have often wondered, but never looked it up. They have found trees that are hundreds and thousands of years old. If trees are living, how do they live for so long? and what determines if they are huge or not? It just confuses me.

Tree lives so long because they never move around, and they keep on growing. Their surrounding is healthy especially trees in the forrest. You barely see that "lives" in the town area live so long. They get cut often. In the forrest, they stay at that particular spot permanently for the rest of their lives. So they live long, there's no dangers of accident or anything. :D

What about some of the larger trees that are in city areas? Like the one in California that is so big you can drive through it?

Haha, my answer was merely for fun. I don't have any scientific knowledge about why trees live so long. For centuries in fact. But i guess, if a tree, especially the big ones have short life span, life will be very difficult as they need to be replaced often and also the reason why huge trees are good is that they could protect the small ones so that it could grow and replace the big ones one day.

Yes, I think I heard somewhere that the big ones help the small ones grow. How to they grow on their own?
