July 1 is the traditional moving day for Montrealers. Most people move because the rent increase is just too much. The trouble is there is no affordable housing in Montreal.
I am so lucky I am getting a low rental what Americans call section 8 in September. I will be living at that place for the rest of my life. I thank God for my low rental. I am so much luckier than many people.

Hi Winterose,
I am happy for you. You seemed really very lucky to have that low rental. We need to be practical nowadays...and spend most of our budget with food since that is indeed a very important basic need rather than spending more on rentals.
Have a great day!

Yes I suffered a lot without a low rental. I cannot afford the rents in Montreal and all of my income went to the landlord. I had nothing for years.

It can definitely get busy around Montreal, on July 1st. There are so many reasons why some people move. It is nice that you are able to find a place with low rent. Not many people have the sort of luck. I do hope that everything goes well for you.

Is this a day that everyone's rent increases? You are very lucky. I hope it will be a very good move for you. Right now, with jobs being the way they are, people are lucky to be making it at all.

It depends on the landlord they don't all put the rent up but most of them do. The rent goes up when the new yearly lease is signed, and that is traditionally July 1

Hello winterose
You do sound fortunate to have a low rental apartment, especially since this sort of thing is such a rarity in Montreal.
You say that you'll be living there the rest of your life. Is it not possible to stay on the low rent list in case something else comes up in future that may interest you?
Peace

Montreal has had low rentals since 1970 but there is more of a demand than there is enough apartments available.
no they don't switch you around like that, once you have a place you stay there unless the size of your family changes.
