and it felt really good!!!
i finished fifth and i won USD100. not bad for a free pool. first place won USD500, second place got USD400, third place got USD300, and fourth place got USD200. prizes were paid through paypal.
the mechanics of the contest was simple. one needs to pick the top two qualifiers from each group. for the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds, one gets specific points for picking the winners. tiebreakers are the number of goals you guessed will be scored during the final game and who will win the golden boot award. i had picked germany to win it all and spain to finish as the runner-up. i actually got three of the four finalists correct. i had germany, italy, and spain. my fourth pick was russia. i couldn't be more wrong with the pick. the russian football team didn't show much love for the mother land! lol!
that russia pick was my downfall. i think russia came in the euros highly touted as the team to win their group. they never lived up to that expectation.
anyway, the winner got both spain and italy right but he got italy winning it all. regardless, getting those two finalist right was enough for him to get the win. the top winner got 34 points over-all with the second place and third place winners getting 32 and 31 points respectively. fourth place got 28 points and i got 27 points. $ucks that the 1 point difference meant a USD100 difference in the prize as well.
oh well, better luck next time.
grats to all the fans of spain!
they proved that they can play an exciting type of football with all the goals that they scored in the finals against italy. a really talented team here. they didn't concede a goal in this year's euro finals as well as the last euro finals and the world cup finals. if that's not good, i don't know what good is.
anyway, have any of you mylotters, joined a similar sports pool? what sporting event was that for and how did you fare? i usually find myself joining pools for the superbowl, the ncaa basketball final four, and a couple ones for horse racing like the kentucky derby and such. do you follow a certain plan when making your picks? care to share your pointers my fellow mylotters?
feel free to chime in and happy mylotting everyone!!!

Wish I knew some pool like this. What is the name of the site? Maybe they will do same thing with the new Champions League season and maybe a prize will be in for me.
Anyways, I predicted Russia will go home from the group stages and this happened. I have also predicted that Spain will go home from the group stages and if the penalty in the group game with Italy and the two penalties in the group game with Croatia would have been awarded, we would have had another champion. Personally, I wasn't impressed by Spain, the only game where they played really well was in the final, otherwise they have played a boring game, and they had lots of luck not being sent home even from the group stage.

hi rappeter13.
we're all members of the local sports betting site and one of the moderators/owner of the site was the sponsor of the contest.
anyway, looking forward to the champions league as well. really excited for the resumption of the four major leagues. the premiere league will start in august so i'm happy.
i think spain playing a 'boring' game is the general sentiment but they get the wins and the goals which is what is important.
thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

thanks for the kind words rappeter13.
i'm in a baseball pick'em as well and i'm not doing any good. before the all-star break, i was 30th out of fifty participants. last i checked i was near the bottom at 42nd place. lol!
i can't win them all. it is still ongoing so i can further improve my rank. i'm not expecting to finish in the money but i'm learning a lot and i think i'm improving my baseball capping skills so that is a plus for me. now what i need to do is translate my improved baseball capping skills into a good profit. that would be so awesome!!!
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

I see. My brother was also a part of a site like this, which was made and administrated by one of his friends, but he didn't end up winning money. I guess this is a great way to have fun with your friends and maybe, with a bit a of luck, even make some money.
If there will be the same thing going on, I wish you to finish on a money-getting position!

First of all i want to congratulate you for your winnigs. You are very lucky because it is very difficult to win anything from these kinds of pool. I also participated in one of the pools like this of my country but unlike you i didn't win anything. But it was fun playing. I really like doing these. So congrats to you again.

hi akash009.
thanks for the congratulatory words. it is difficult to win in pools like these. i've been joining free pools as far as i can remember and i think the best i ended up was 2nd place with a prize money of USD150. that happened to me twice, the first was during the nba finals series between the san antonio spurs and the cleveland cavaliers. that was the nba 2007 season. i had predicted the two finalist correctly and predicted the eventual nba champions. actually, the first place winner and me both have the spurs winning 4-2 but he had a lower total finals game score, hence, he was declared the winner.
thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

Wow, it is very nice indeed to win USD100 from a free pool! If you were to pick Portugal in the semis I think you would have had the chance to win the first prize. You did well enough anyway to win a prize. World Cup qualifying matches are coming...

hi jkct02.
i didn't have portugal to go pass the group stages. anyway, USD100 from a free pool is indeed a nice prize.
excited for the world cup qualifying matches as well. i don't bet it but i do try my best to follow the games. i try to watch match highlights and look at the stats like shots on goal and percentage of possession. plus i look out for injury updates and player availability.
cheers and happy mylotting mate!
