Big Ben is a famous landmark in UK. Do you know that it changed a new name as Queen Elizabeth II? Actually I prefer to its old name much more because it sounds funny. And after all, Big Ben had been used for quite a long time and it is well-known all over the world.

I knew that the name change had been proposed but I didn't know that they had followed through on it. I think that most of the current generation will continue to call it Big Ben.

Me too. I didn't know about this proposed change. I should listen to the news more often. Maybe I can learn more about this by Googling it for more information and news reports. Will do that.

Hello youless. Yes I saw on the news that in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the throne. Actually Big Ben is the name of the the big bell at the top of the tower that rings out the chimes.. It is the tower that is being named for Elizabeth II. The name of the clock Tower is "The Clock Tower:.

Is it really true? I love the name Big Ben, why do they have to change it. Why not create a new statue or landmark and name Queen Elizabeth II. I don't think the name Queen Elizabeth II fits the clock...kinda odd.

I didn't know the name was changed to Queen Elizabeth II.. yeah this new name is kinda odd.. Big Ben sounds grand. I like the old name.. the new name doesn't describe the huge magnificent clock very well.

I totally agree, and I think people are going to continue calling it Big Ben out of habit. Just lime when the sky dome baseball stadium in Toronto was bought up by Rogers communications, and re-named the Rogers centre. People including me, still call it the sky dome, and they always will.

Yes, I think the name Big Ben sounds more comfortable and better fit in the ear of the name now. Big Ben tower changed its name to Elizabeth. I heard the name change was done to honor the queen who celebrated diamond throne, or rather honor, marking 60 years of Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne in the United Kingdom (correction if I'm wrong). Indeed, if the view of the history of the name Big Ben itself, is well known everywhere. But if the name change as the policy of the parliament, there is nothing wrong for not polemical.
