I may have been born in 1994, but I was raised on my mom's music and she was born in 1957. I remember "rocking out" with her to Tommy James and the Shondells, Huey Lewis, Doris Day, Hall and Oates, Fleetwood Mac, etc...I didn't really hear much modern music until 6th grade. Then going into my rebellious stage I decided mom's music was "old and boring", and started drowning myself in the music of the 2000s. Now here I am, 18, and I don't feel like a rebel anymore. I find myself enjoying my mom's music all over again, and even prefer it to most songs I've heard on the radio lately. It turned out the way it always does: my mom's right. lol She has good taste and her music will never get "old and boring". How about you? What music education did your parents give you? Do you still listen to it?

My parents brought me up exposing me to oldies music like the Beatles, Bee Gees, ABBA, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and many more. Honestly speaking, I personally prefer music from the olden days compared to music from this generation, although at times I still listen to the latter. Oldies songs sound nice, and they have much more meaningful lyrics than songs from the current era. My parents were kind enough to send me for piano lessons since young, and I now can play music by ear. Learning music certainly helps an individual evaluate music differently, and personally, oldies music still appeals to me much more than music of the current era. I guess most people, especially youths and teenagers, just go along with the music that is written in their era. PS: I'm not ashamed to say that your mom has got good taste with music, just like what you said!

I don't really go for the Beatles, but I love the Monkeys (funny how they were a spoof off Beatles). I loved ABBA when I was little but I've found they sound too much alike in every song for me to listen to them too much, and Elvis I have to be in the mood for. "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun" is a definite favorite along with "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". Whitney Houston's earlier songs are her best in my opinion. I tried to take piano lessons as a kid but gave up, and I played flute from 6th-9th grade. But I have found my voice is my favorite instrument. I'll be sure to let my mom know I'm not the only one who likes her style! lol

My father seldom listens to music but my mum loves it very much. When I was in 1st grade my mum played a CD of the Beatles, this is my first time to hear the Beatles. Honestly speaking,at that time I don't have any impact of their songs because I was too young. However, when I was in 6th grade, I fell in love with the Beatles and started to understand their words and appreciated their music. From that moment, I began to look for songs that were popular in my mum's age. ABBA is a wonderful band and I got a CD from my uncle since he was a big fan of them when he was young. Carpenters, who is my favorite duo, is the best singer I have ever met. Karen's voice is really beautiful and I don't there will be another Karen. Songs from 60s or 70s are really meaningful and beautiful. Lyrics are written beautifully to express their true feeling of Love and World, Music are created simply to catch our deep side of Life and Peace. I hope that I was born in my mum's age!!

It's funny how those of us whose parents educate us about their childhood, we wish we'd been born then too. lol
