"Old" Music

I will never forget this time in class my freshman year when I was listing off songs I liked by Beyonce. Well, I had just discovered her and thus was looking further back into her music than others might, so the songs I liked best were probably 3-6 years old. I couldn't believe this one kid that piped up with "Those are OLD songs!" I don't know about you guys, but I don't consider songs "old" until the singer has been dead and gone for a good 10-20 years. This always frustrated me though because it seemed like I was "weird" or out of the loop or something just because the majority of the music I knew and loved was not up to date. But what's wrong with that? What really blew my mind was when I was informed that a song that was been made ONE year before, was "old". Crazy! lol Have you ever been accused of listening to "old" music, that's not really old? When do you consider a song old?

Songs they consider as old are good songs and real music for me. Old songs are better classified as classics. Song by Beyonce is not old for me, old songs ar those that are from the 50's or 60's but they are very good songs. There are older ones like instrumentals by Mozart and Bethooven. I a sure many wont react negatively if we call this music old or classics. Songs from the 70's and 80's are my favorites, and they are still being played in most radio stations here in the Philippines. I only like few songs of the present times.

Hello EmmyLu18 I have experienced this very thing. Not too long ago I was in the shops and I noticed a bin full of 'classic (i.e., old) music.' As I sifted through the music I was appalled that nearly all of these tunes were no more than 25 years young. I couldn't believe that they would be in the 'old bin'. I knew that surely there was some mistake as old music is typically from the 1920's or so. Peace

That's outrageous! lol People keep telling me that because new music comes out daily, it ages fast...I just can't grasp that though: A day old song is young, a month old song a teenager, a 5 month old song is having a midlife crisis, and a year old song is old and ready for the grave!? ....No lol
