Ever heard of baby acne?

I was really alarmed to see pimple-like rashes on my newborn's face - on both her cheeks. I thought it was something I did wrong with her hygiene. I searched it up on the web and found out that baby acne is a common episode on babies and would eventually disappear. I find it amusing that babies can have acne, too. The article said it is caused by hormones passed on from the mother during pregnancy - (so, Im to be blamed,). Right now, I just wash it with water during bathing time. No soap, creams or what have you, as it would just irritate it. Did you have the same experience with your babies?

Yes my 8 week old daughter has it on her face. My son also had it when he was a baby. Just keep your newborn's face clean and as dry as possible. No sented baby wipes either. They just make it worse. But it should go away in a couple weeks. Congrats on your new bundle of joy!

I would agree with that. I mean, babies don't really get very dirty, except for the dried milk that may drip when they feed, or if they spit up. Babies don't sweat often or not that much, and they don't have much activities that will get them dirty -- oh, just the poop, but it gets cleaned right away. So, plain water could be the only cleaning agent they need to stay fresh and squeaky clean.

Neither of my children suffered from baby acne, but my niece that is going to be a year old tomorrow did experience more than her fair share of baby acne. I often wondered if besides the changes in hormones that children experience just after their birth if the fact that they are born a little bit premature could have something to do with baby acne as well. You see, Jaley was born about six weeks early and she was the only one of five children that have been through this. That is my two children as well as her and her two sisters.

They say that prematurely born babies could have complications more than those that are full term. But, baby acne can happen even to full terms, like mine.

My son had that on his face hen he was a baby, I did check with he doctor, and the doctor said it's very common, and they would just go off eventually, and asked me not to do anything with it. I just bathed my baby as usual, and I din't remember when those acne went off. I just used plain water to wipe his face and did not apply anything else on his face.

It's been 4 weeks, and she still has some on her cheeks. And, Im seeing rashes on her chest, too. I think she's got real sensitive skin and I have to keep her clean all the time. Spill over milk irritates her skin easily.

During my daughter, she had those as i never really know a thing about it.. lol.. but then i realized that too much touching on her face, kissing her face causes it.. just like our own acne / pimple.. so i tried my best not to let my hubby kiss her face as he is fond of touching and kissing it..

I also thought, at first, that it was caused by irritation due to my husband's mustache touching her face when he kisses her. But, when I read that article online, I was relieved that its something common and would heal on its own. The sad thing is, the article also mentioned that if the baby gets it this early stage of their life, they will most likely also have it during adolescence.

My doctor didn't want us to use any other body treatment on the baby, other than just water and baby soap during bathing. She doesn't want us to use lotion, oil, any cream, whatsoever. So, I'd just follow that for now. Although, I use petroleum jelly on her neck creases and groin area, because Ive proven that to work against rashes with my first born.

Yes it's very normal and its not your fault. You are not in control of your pregnancy hormones and what is and isn't passed to your baby while pregnant. My daughter had it as well. The best way to get ride of it isn't to wash it or put cream on them. Instead treat it like dry skin and put baby lotion on after every bath and before bed at night time. At this age a baby shouldn't be getting a bath every day it should be like every other. It should go away with in a few weeks to a month.

No, I can't stand not giving her a bath, especially when she smells like dried milk early in the morning. Apparently, small amounts of milk spills out from her mouth when she feeds, and it goes to her neck and shirt. Plus, with our weather, even with the AC on, we can't help but sweat from the heat. So, its imperative to bathe the baby once everyday to keep her fresh. It also helps her to rest well when she feels fresh.

Baby acne is actually called milia. Both my children had it but with my son being the second child I knew from my first child to stop using all lotions etc. on his face when he started getting it. My kids had very sensitive skin especially my daughter. There wasent a single lotion or powder I could use on her face that didnt cause her to break out. It was massive little pimples all over her face and chest. It didnt bother her but looked awful.

My first kid didn't have any skin issues. It's only on the new baby. She's almost 3 months old, and she still has those tiny bumps on her cheeks. I really hope they'll go away.

Yes, my youngest one had it. I took her to the doctor right away, because I had never heard of it, either ... my oldest daughter never had it. The doctor pretty much told me the same thing that you have said - just use the gentle baby soap on it when I gave her a bath, but I had to make sure that the baby soap was fragrance free or it could irritate it and make it worse.

I stopped using baby soap on it, too, because it seems to have made it worse. I use just plain water to wash off dirt and especially spit up milk from it. Occasionally, I would also wipe it with wet clean soft cloth.

I knew it already before the birth of our son. My wife is a first time mom so she did more research on such topics. Good for us that our son does not have that baby acne. You are right is is just the hormone coming from their mothers since they are with the moms for nine months. It will eventually disappear as the remaining hormone vanished in their system. You are right, dont try to apply anything on the acne because it will cause more problems. Try to have your baby a tea bath by having tea extract on his waterbath. This can help your baby to have a smooth and flawless skin too. Just what we did for our son.

Tea bath? Haven't heard of that. Sounds cool and soothing. Good that your wife did a lot of research. She must be very well equipped right before the baby came out.

That is crazy. I have never heard of that before. Poor little baby. Well, that is interesting, and I hope the little girly is alrite.

Yes its crazy, but according to medical experts from the articles I read online, its something parents shouldn't be too concerned about. Its common and would just go away after a few weeks. Just keeping it clean. Apparently, it doesn't bother the baby at all, more than it does the parents.

Babies are just like us. My daughter happens to have a lot of hair on her body.

My baby also got a lot of hair on her back. When she came out she's already got thick black hair on her head, too.

I've tried reading a lot of pregnancy and motherhood weblogs especially during my first pregnancy, but most of it doesn't really make sense or doesn't get retained in my memory until I experience them. So, I just go by each case as they come. Of course, the basic ones are all covered.
