I bought my cat some catnip

Last week or so I was frustrated that Kitty wasn't playing with any toys, and I tried everything, but only could get him to play for a bit with yarn. So I went to the pet store and bought some catnip, just a small bag to start off with so I wouldn't waste much money if he wasn't interested in that, and lo and behold, he got a bit more active! :-) I was so pleased. And relieved, too! I want my Kitty to enjoy life as much as possible.

If you get more, watch that he doesn't get too much. My daughter's boyfriend's cat got into the catnip and was totally crazy for a long time..she is fine, but he now makes sure to lock it up tight..1 person likes this

Funny that you mentioned that because when I came home and sat down at my laptop I realised I've left the catnip bag on the table, but there's no holes in it Kitty was sleeping, and none of it was missing. I think this is beginner's luck and I'll make sure I'll keep it up high to make sure I don't have the fella's experience on day with his cat :-p

Most cats love Catnip. I was getting my cats Christmas stocking ready for Christmas morning and I had left the catnip on the bed while I went to answer the phone. When I came back the catnip bag had holes in it and the cats were going crazy. I had told the cats that they are worse than a human child who goes snooping to see what they will be getting for Christmas. It was cute, but I could not help but laugh.

LOL that would be cute, eh? I remember when I first bought the catnip, I had it in my rucksack, and Kitty was sniffing it, then located the catnip and I had to take the bag out of his mouth and put it up high so he wouldn't take all of it, it was funny, though, because after he kept on sniffing around in my rucksack after the catnip was gone. I just had to take a picture of it.

When in doubt, bring out the 'nip. Not all cats love it, but all of the ones I've ever lived with have. Of course, their reactions to catnip have varied greatly--from being really silly to being really possessive of the 'nip.

Ya, I think it's 25% of cats that aren't sensitive to catnip. I grew up with cats but neither foster home ever gave catnip to their cats. I guess to them it would be too messy or something. Our cat's ten years old so I'm not expecting too much rise in activity level but any level of activity would help, for sure. Maybe if he loses a bit of weight he'll feel more energetic.

That's a lovely idea, I should do that, well, plant it in a pot inside our flat, I just gave a bit of catnip a few minutes ago, and he's playing around with the ball just a little bit and rubbing his head in it a bit, rolling around, so he's a bit more active at the monment. Maybe having fresh plants inside will help get his activity level up.

My cats all love catnip, and I love watching them scamper around with their catnip toys. I don't give it them all the time, but once in a while, as a treat. And it certainly does make them lively--until they get all tuckered out and then they go back to sleep--usually on top of the catnip toy!

How old are your cats? I wish mine would scamper around. Kitty just roll on the floor a bit and and maybe bat at the ball a bit, but his tail gets active LOL He'll even eat some catnip as well. I try to give him some almost every day if I think of it, it's really sad seeing him lay around and sleeping all the time. But either way, I love the old bugger. He's 10 years old, we just adopted him.

Maybe he is sluggish due to the way the heat has been if it's gotten hot out or not there I dunno, though. But it is here. I found some catnip in a drawer I was going through today and I was looking for something to stuff to give it to my cat. Found it and sewed one side together, put the catnip inside and tied it with ribbon. I gave it to her and she doesn't even play with it, maybe grabbed it once but nothing now. She really isn't a big catnip fan, she would just as soon not have any toys with it in it as she doesn't play with them. Sigh. She is an older cat though.

Ah okay, ya, the older a cat gets the less active he'll get, though, Mine's ten years old. Some cats even kittens aren't senstive to catnip and so they won't have any reaction to it at all, but that's only in the 25% of felines. It is a good exerciser, though. I might try something else like knitting some small bags to put catnip in, and dangle them from some places, because all cats like yarn.

I think all cats should have the chance to play with catnips treats. It makes them have fun and play for a nice amount of time. I love my cat mazi and will go buy her some more as well.

I wish Kitty was younger, though. Right now his ball is on the floor with a small bit of catnip on the floor (the ball has a hole in it so some catnip comes out while he bats the ball around). He was playing with it for a little bit now I suppose he'll come back to it later on this evening, being that cats are naturally nocturnal.
