When I lived in Missouri we lived in a subdivision. Behind us was a farmers field.
We lived there a few years and the farmer sold some of his land to build a subdivision behind us.
So here come the diggers well we all know there are critters in the ground.
So in winter we had field mice get in and they would leave in spring.
Crazy but true.
They mostly lived in the basement and I was never scared of rodents so when I was downstairs working my business I would throw them a cheeto.
One day I guess one got in the pantry.
he had chewed a hole in a cereal box.
My son who was then 4 yelled at his dad and said there is a mouse in my cereal!
Naturally my husband got up emptied the box and the mouse fell out and took off faster than humans can LOL
So they see he went in a crack hole in our fireplace we did not know we had til he went in it LOL
So my husband son get a little shoe box.
they get a pencil and tie string around it and they are going to catch this mouse.
So they both lay on the floor for the wait.
I just shook my head and started dinner.
Well sure enough mousey come out because we were tempting him with a chunk of cheese.
Have to tell you it was funny to watch husband and son so positioned for the catch.
And they were SERIOUS! LOL
Well after 3 tries and missed because they were not fast enough, on the 4th try they got the poor little fella. But they did not bargain for when they stuck their hand in to get him they got bit and he escaped into the hole again.
I know I laughed at their antics for quite awhile.
After getting bit my husband said Mouse can live with us LOL
So I always put a cheeto on a fireplace step and the little fella would sit there eat his cheeto and go back to the basement.
Never saw any in my pantry again as long as I remembered to feed them LOL

What a cute story. When I first moved back into my home I had 4 cats. After a hard day of moving, I was lying on the couch. One of my cats came over to me crying his "play with me" cry. I reached out to pet him without looking at him. Out of the corner of my eye I could see something moving. He had a mouse in his mouth and I guess he expected me to play with it. Instead I screamed, and jumped up on the couch. He ran to the cellar with the mouse in his mouth, and I never saw it again.

Mine used to eat them. He would leave the guts for me and nothing else. I have never seen a cat eat them before and thought only cats that weren't fed properly would want to eat them. He was the exception I guess. He was well fed, but still ate what he caught.

we had a couple of rats in the ceiling/walls for a few years - the former roomie didn't want to kill them, so we just put dog food down for them and kept the bathroom door shut to keep the cats out...
She wanted to get rodent food for them, but I told her to find out what they fed them at the University and they said they fed their rats dog food...

Rats are awesome! I had a hairless rat I bought at a exotic animal show. I had never seen a hairless before and I brought home this little girl. I named her millie and every morning she would be standing up in her cage for me to get her out.
Igenerally had tea every morning and I would bring it over and while I was buttering my toast, millie would perch up on my cup of tea and drink her fair share. Then she would come back down and sit by me and eat a piece of buttered toast I had broken off for her.
She was awesome. Had her almost 3 years til she passed.
Got another one but Mickey was never like millie all he wanted to do was sit under my hair next to my neck and keep warm.
He would eat anything I gave him but he never perched on my cup like millie did and drink her tea.

What a lovely story and so funny sounds like a Tom and Jerry cartoon. We have field mice in our shed they are so small and so sweet. They are not dirty rodents like rats or house mice.We are allowed to kill those things with traps. It is against the law to kill field mice in our country. They do no real harm and are charming little things.

That is so funny! I've had all manner of rodents in my house. We've caught two flying squirrels that the cat refused to even get near. She was scared of them.
We had one mouse in our new house, and our cat went CRAZY playing with it. She had him pinned by the tail to the floor, poor little thing. He got free, and she slapped him against a wall. The crazy mouse just sat there and stared at us, so we caught him and let him go outside.
The only obvious injury was the hole in his tail where the cat had pinned him to the floor with her claw.

With 5 children I have probably had one of every kind of critter once if not twice.
I never minded warm and fuzzy. Cold and Clammy had to grow on me LOTS OF LEARNING!

That is too funny! I pictured this like one of those old Tom and Jerry cartoons - ha ha! Your husband and son didn't catch the mouse because they used the wrong bait . . . they should have used a cheeto - ha ha!!
Did you give him a name?

Hello marie. I don't care for mice. My granddaughter(I raised her) was always wanting a white mouse and a ferret. Now to me mice are too dirty and ferrets remind me of weasels. Mice may be clean about them selves but their dropping can have disease . Some years ago We lived in Kansas and we had two cats and one dog. We lived out in the country and the animals were allowed out side. We would go for a walk with them. The dog was in front of us and a cat on the two points. It was fun to watch the way they worked. Sometime they would all disappear and then come home with the dog having a mouse in her mouth or the cats would bring us a present. Your story about your husband and on is really cute. You should writ it down for him for in the future.

Anything can carry a disease. Its up to us if we have a pet to keep them healthy. Even dogs and cats can seriously get sick and we can get things from them.
I never said no to anything and my children have learned alot about pets and have learned to respect them. I know my son who is now 22 is overprotective of our gators in the gator pond at our state park. Visitors come and throw stuff at them and they come out of hte water and then we hear the jerks take off screaming and we will walk back and not let any more tourists come around to abuse them tilthey go back in the water.

hi maire oh I love it as I could see your husband and your
son all positioned to catch the poor little mousie. lol then he
bit your hubby and he made a wise decision,. just live with the little guy I love it. reminds me of when we had a cat my dad adored but it was ill and my grandpa and my dad went to a lot of trouble to fashion a funnel while mom held the cat, and they put the pill
into the funnel and as soon as it hit the cats mouth, the smart cat spit it out. so I come in, take the pill. wrap it in some cheese I'knew the Cat Jenny loved to eat. held it out and she ate it. You
should have seen the looks on their faces,I was 12, my dad probably 60 and grandpa 65 but I was the one that got Jenny to take her pill .lol

Isn't it great all the stories come to mind (and I know you and I have a lot) and just make you chuckle and smile?
I watch my son now who is now 22 and he still does some of the same childish things he did when he was 4 LOL
I get a laugh every once in awhile when I see him after some animal!

It's a funny story, but I still don't want mice in the house. I hate it when I can hear them scratching the wall behind my bed. When I can't see them, I can't tell if it's a mouse or a rat. We have three cats who live near us and often hunt around our house, so I haven't seen any mice inside for years.

I don;t know why I liked mice but I always wanted one. I remember I snuck one home one time I was about 12 and had bought it at the local dimestore. It was only 25cents.
I put her in my trash can and made her a bed and everything.
Next day I went to school and got her out and was letting her run on my bed and play and my dad come in and saw her and took her away from me and flushed her down the toilet. That day I vowed I would never do that to my own children and I never did. they had any animal they wanted and we learned so much about them.
