I haven't eaten at a Golden Corral buffet in many years. Last time I recall there being a wide variety of food and - if you wanted to - you could eat pretty healthy. I guess times have changed Apparently, they had added a chocolate fountain. Now the new item is cotton candy. This is crazy to me! How can the owners of this restaurant sleep at night?

I have not been to Golden Corral in a while. When I do eat there I hit the salad bar first. I eat more salad than anything else. I just love salads. I am very disappointed when their salad bar looks bad. I have not seen the new cotton candy or the chocolate fountain. I think that it is up to the individual to eat a healthy diet not the restaurant. I also feel that it is the parents' responsibility to assure that their children eat healthy as well. I cannot blame a restaurant for serving poor choices.

There are too many irresponsible parents though. Personally I believe that desserts should not be in the kids menu or be promoted to kids. The desserts should be n the adult menu so a parent can choose if their child should have a dessert.

Sedel1027, the problem with that at Golden Corral is that its on the buffet and the kids can see it. Of course the parents could say no but I doubt that any of them would want to deal with the aftermath.

I totally agree with you Shelly. If people cannot have self control on what they should or should not eat that is their fault not the restaurants fault.

I agree with you too. We all have choices and we can all say no to it.

I did not understand the adding cotton candy, as that really is not a dinner or lunch food. I hear a lot of people that like the chocolate fountain though. I don't think the cotton candy will go over much.

I think of cotton candy as carnival food. Definitely not something to have in a restaurant. Can you imagine the mess the stick kids leave behind?

Thanks for the warning sedel, I haven't gone to Golden Corral for a long time, mostly due to money problems, but I do love eating there, the salads and fish are great. But this new turn will keep me away, unless I go without my son who is drawn to all that candy they have laying out, and now a chocolate fountain and cotton candy? Forget it!!!

No problem. I was shocked by the commercial. I guess places will do anything to make a dollar and bring a crowd in. Personally, that type of food service and having such desserts is a major turn off for me.

Yeah. Right now my 13 year old is with his Dad. For a month and a half prior to leaving he had stomach pain. 2 Drs and an ER visit later it was decided that he has (sp?). Right now he is supposed to be on a slightly limited diet and is taking Prilosec. I talk to my son a lot and what he is eating bothers me. His diet isn't crazy limited but to avoid flare ups on the medicine he started off on blander diet and was to build up to a 'regular' diet and then get off the pills and maintain his regular diet. However, what he eats at his dad's isn't his regular diet. It's a lot of meat, fried foods, fast food, ect. Right now he s still on the pills, but soon he will be off. So not only do I have worry about his stomach but his diet. Every year he gets sick and his Dad does nothing (makes no sense since he goes to the dr or free!) and I have to calm my son down, tell him what to do and he has to take care of himself....

Yeah me too and then my son goes to the neighbor's where they serve soda. I cringe and from what he tells me, he has only accepted one can, but still...You know???

Most places have unhealthy things for desserts, if they don't see it out they can still see them on the menu their parents are looking at.
I think it is up to the parents to stick to the healthy things for their children and to watch how much of something they have. It is to get more people to go there I am sure, with more variety of things for kids to have for a dessert. When we go there my children are allowed to have one thing for dessert, they don't get junk food a lot so when we go somewhere special they do get a treat. =)
Golden Coral is a great place, they have so much variety and so many healthy choices for food, a little dessert never hurts. Not to me anyway...

Most places have a kids 1 scoop ice cream or a milk shake on the menu though. Words or even a small picture on a coloring kids menu is easier to get kids to forget about than a bunch of kids & adults walking around with cotton candy.
Yes, a little dessert never hurts, however there are so many overweight kids (and adults) with poor eating habits that do not benefit from eating at a buffet style diner. Adding tempting desserts makes the situation worse.

You may know the difference but many people don't. That is the issue with promoting junk food to kids. Parents are not always responsible and their kids pay for it.

People should have more self control. Not trying to sound mean but I know when enough is enough and I keep it that way.
It really doesn't matter to me what others do. For me there is no need to worry about others eating habits because they will only change it if they want to. No one can force them to eat less or watch what they eat. I don't even want to force them to. If they want to be unhealthy it really is up to them, not me. It is their body and health.

Hi sedel, I went to Golden Corral a couple of time while on
holiday...My family look forward to going there..They have
added cotton candy...but they also have a health food bar
with plenty of healthy food for the health conscience people.
There is stuff there that is not to my liking so I just don't
get it. There was certainly a wide variety of foods for all...
I am sure they sleep fine at night because everytime we have
there, it is packed with customers...

Good to hear that they still have some healthy food
. Unfortunately (or fortunate) that style of restaraunt doesn't suit my taste. I personally don't care for buffets. I didnt grow up eating in places like that. My husband and i prfer sushi places lol When we go visit our families we go to sit down local places. The whole commercial with the chocolate fountain and cotton candy really turned me off.

I personally LOVE the golden corral. They have so much more than the crappy buffets where I live. How would you like to eat at lousy salty country buffet, same stuff for the past fifteen years. I don't even bother anymore. We eat at a really good Chinese buffet that has better stuff than the usual Chinese buffets.
I bet the fountain is a big hit with the kids. I'm sure it's meant as a dessert as they have desserts they just added one more. I personally wouldn't touch it but I don't eat sugar a lot so that's just me.

I really just don't care for buffets n general. I know some places really keep up on the quality of their foods, but most don't. I would rather go to a place, pay a bit more and eat quality then food that is sitting under heat lamps for hours on end. I also worry about people contaminating the food.

Based on the fact that it is kind of expensive to eat at Golden Corral, we don't have the opportunity to eat there all that often. However, that doesn't mean that we don't enjoy eating there. The fact that they have added cotton candy and a chocolate fountain to their options for dessert doesn't really have any impact at all to me.
With that said, I don't think that this is a new low because they still have all of the healthier options that they've had in the past as well.
