I haven't done this with a laptop but I have, a few times, with a desktop. Here is a page that might help: http://mobradley.hubpages.com/hub/HOW-TO-RESET-COMPUTERS-TO-FACTORY-SETTINGS

Yes. you use the CD's that came with the laptop. But of course you don't have them. do you? Not surprising because almost every computer shop hides those away from you, and in fact, you will often find dozens of them thrown away in the garbage bins behind the store! Computer shops want your money. They want to charge you for repairs, or better still, for another new computer. Ask for the OEM software that came with the laptop. They rightly tell you that they don't have it (cause it's in the bin). Ask the manufacture and they will tell you that you should already have this software since it came with the computer. So what can you do? Nothing, except to be sure that you get them NEXT time you buy a laptop!

If your having image files or back up files just use them to get back to previous state. If you dont have back up files get one os cd and format your system.
