When I was pregnant,I tried to eat healthy. I was on assistence at the the time so I had to make do with little money. I even went to food pantries. I don't really recall having cravings. Nowadays it seems some woman who are pregnant try to be super healthy eaters! I have a friend who's daughter is only eating organic foods and organic milk! That is great but can a good thing be a bad thing sometimes?

Organic food is good for you but its not a 100% better for you. Its more expensive to eat so if you have very little money to work with then getting it isn't a good choice. you can still eat healthy with out going all organic. I've been pregnant twice this is my second pregnancy I don't eat any healthy then I did before I was pregnant. When pregnant its the best time to eat what ever you feel like eating as well as eating good things for you. You need the extra fats and bad things for you to give you more energy to give to the baby.
I had wic with my daughter and she still has it till she is at least 5 years old or unless or income is above the qualification level. I have wic as well so the foods that we do need that is healthy for us we can get using our wic card and it saves us money to eat the healthy things that is need as well as the food that is healthy and fatting at the same time like whole milk. I"m not an all organic mommy I don't believe its any better for you then normal grown food. Yes it doesn't have all those chemicals but when cooked and washed the way they should be before eating them it won't hurt you any less or more then home grown food. Cutting out of your own diet eating at restaurants and fast food places takes away a lot of unhealthy food and cooking at home a lot of home cooked meals is a lot healthier for you.
I do buy some things that are organic but some times they don't taste as good as none organic fruits or veggies. Raising your own food is a good way to save on money and know where it came from and how it was grown.

My friends daughter goes to the local farm markets to buy her organic vegetables and fruit. Not sure if that is where she gets the milk but she can afford the organic foods. She has a good job and so does her husband. It is true organic foods don't have all the chemicals. If you can afford it or grow it, all the power to you!
I was on WIC while I was pregnant. I remember I could get milk, cereal and some other things on it. I had forgottan that. It was not a good period of my life so I try to forget some of that time! After my baby was born I gave my son up for adoption because it was the right thing to do!

Many women have WIC it's nothing to be a shamed of. My husband had a good job it's just that we fall in the family size that say we are techingally poor so we can't afford everything but we can afford to live comfortable. We went through a huge rough spot of having zero money at one point but things got better after we found out we where having our daughter. We both work really hard in what we both do. My husband gets to go to work every day and I get to stay home and take care of our daughter we can't really afford child care weather I work or not. We are having our second baby now.
WIC covers milk, juice, bread, rice, peanut butter, eggs, beans, there is a huge list I know what it they all are from memory since this our second year having it for me. My daughter has a different list. We can by fruit weather we have WIC or not or things we need but we don't wast our money yes something might be better for us but some times it's not worth the coast. If you wash them and stuff it pretty much gets ride of chemicals.
Adoptions that must have been a tough choice for you. I personally could never do it. I can't see my life with out my daughter and I certainly can't see it with out my son either. Having children period is hard work, and expensive at any time in any ones life and it's even harder making a choice weather to have them or not. Good for you, for knowing it was the right thing to do with what ever reason it was for. I'm sure you made a couple really happy and gave him the best life possible with them.

Hi Blue,
Well, I don't know how bad it can possibly be except for maybe on the wallet. When I was pregnant, I didn't get real cravings either. I was more aware of what I ate and put an effort into cutting out a lot of the junk food and replacing it with more fruits. I also learned to cook liver in a way that I could tolerate eating it. I hated the iron pills and had to add iron to my diet and that was the easiest alternative. I actually ended up liking it.
As for your friend..well, I just hope her finances allow her to continue feeding her daughter that way. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and my Uncle owned a farm. ALL the food we ate growing up was home-grown and 100% natural. He made his own butter and all the veges were grown on his farm. All our meats were home-grown. Our milk and eggs...pretty much everything we ate came from his farm or the neighbor's farm. Some things of course did come from the grocery store which honestly...I believe we just had small markets back then. The point is that when everything started changing and farms became fewer and fewer, it took a lot of adjusting on my part to get used to the foods that are pretty common now.
My point is that your friend raising her child on only organic foods is all well and good as long as she can afford to do it but if the day ever comes that she can't then her daughter will have some adjusting to do. I sure did. I can STILL taste the preservative in some things. The more natural the better though so I can't really bring myself to say your friend is wrong.

I grew up on a farm and we raised most of our vegetables and most of our meat. We also drink the milk form the cows we had. When I was little we had chickens and ate the eggs and some of the chickens. Don't remember why my mom decided to stop raising chickens! Anyway that was a long time ago!
My friend's daughter has a good job and so does her husband. She can afford to pay for organic foods! She goes to the local farm markets, too. I am sure more people would do it if they could afford it!

hi blue65packer a lot of timeds organic is terribley expensive and not necessarily any better than ordinar veggies and fruit. One should
eat a balanced diet when pregnant but not tuff ones self. m y doctor way back said eat for one and a half not two..that tine I did not have to take off as much weight after child birth as I ate more
sensibly.notstuffing myself but eating enough to sustain me and baby.

Yes I know organic food is expensive. My friend's daughter and her husband can afford the organic food. She is seeing an OB doctor and is 3 months along. She is so excited getting pregnant she wants to do everything right! I know if the doctor tells her different she will do it different! This woman is no dummy!

Well I think you can have too much of a good thing with some foods. You shouldn't overdo just one food I don't think. We should have a variety of different foods, doesn't mean you have to go eating junk food but just change it up a bit, different fruits and vegetables not the same ones all the time
