who do you think is the most famous person. When discussing about this subject, people always throws in some names from their country and give google hits as evidence.
Its not accurate since, its only the opinion of the net users, not the whole world. Most of these thread put "Elvis" at the top.Seriously,I don't know who this guy is(pardon me),and am sure that most people don't know about him either. In my country Gandhiji is considered the greatest(I am not throwing his name in,he is above all :) for me). Most famous foreigner(in india) is Micheal Jackson.

I think there is not such thing as most famous person in the world. Famous person is more famous in one place, but less famous in another. So that cannot be measured. And along with Gandhiji, there is Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina, they are super famous in India too, just for different reasons. India has different 'most famous' people in different states, cities, areas too. It is too huge, we cannot measure it.
It will take years to get an accurate answer and by that time, people would have new favorites. We can maybe measure India's most famous person, but even that is a difficult task, we are such a huge country, with that large variety in taste and preferences.

Hello KKaria,
I think No one is 'along' with Gandhiji.Amitab Bachchan,Shahrukh Khan etc are famous now.Its is not guaranteed that, they will be famous after sometime.I am sure that Gandhiji will never be forgotten by us Indians.Honestly speaking, the above said persons(barring gandhi),are not so much, throughout India. We just know them, thats it.Every state have different language and different film stars.South Indians know Rajni more than any of these guys.:P

Hahaha, who doesn't know Rajni in India? It is true, that is what I am saying, that the most famous person could be different in everybody's opinion. Youth these days in India will think of Salmaan Khan or Michael Jackson before they think of Gandhiji. There are exceptions, I am not judging anyone, I am just saying that there is no 'right or wrong' answer to this question. We can all have favorites, but who is to say that our favorite is the MOST famous?

If it is so,then its very unfortunate.
Back, when we were the 'youth',there was only one role model.Gandhi!
I like a Salman a lot,but I will not dare to put him above Gandhi
If anyone is clean enough to be named with him,it would be Anna Hazare...not Salman and certainly noooot Rahul Gandhi

If i had to guess i would say Hitler. He is probably the most famous/infamous person of all time and is still talked about a lot as shown by the large number of documentaries, films and books etc that continue to be made about him.The evil and terrible things that he did will mean that he won't be forgotten for a very long time.

Hi gara vegeta: Oh really you don't know who was Elvis? First of all you mention that in your country Elvis is not so well known compared to Michael who was one of the greatest pop artists in music story. However if you say: the most famous person ever lived it means not only in your country but in the whole world and you must know that Elvis has bought more records than Michael Jackson so I think he still is most famous than MJ.

I don't know him.He may be the greatest..But no doubt MJ is the more famous out of the two.
.If Elvis had lived in this era(as MJ)..Then probably we would have been more famous than him.

yeah for me, the most famous person ever lived was Michael Jackson, i mean here in India we adore him like anything. More than his controversial life, he gave priority to his extraordinary talent that made him immortal in our hearts for ever.

King David and Moses seem to be great candidates. Noah and many others as well, but I would say KING DAVID is the most famouse of all time.

People become famous for right and wrong reasons.Gandhiji is famous and so is Abraham Lincoln. In contrast, there was Osama Bin Laden.Osama and Dawood Ibrahim are also well known in our country and also in the USA.People know the names of these terrorists or perpetrators of terrorism. But now let us talk about so called mythical characters such as ShriRam.I have seen illiterate people who don't know who Gandhi was,let alone Lincoln. But they know ShriRam and chant His name every morning. In my opinion,ShriRam and ShriKrishna are not mythological characters. They are historical persons like Jesus in western countries.I think, these so called mythological characters are still the most popular persons of the world.

hello else,Jai ShriRam!!Thank you for the response!
Friend We are talking about the whole world.Lord Ram and Jesus are mythological figures,we shouldn't bring them into this debate.Jesus is not well known in the east, and Lord Ram is not that famous in the west.I am not sure about them being historical, they are not bound to any time, they live even today.
