Computer problems: A couple of obnoxious brats!

Yesterday was not a good day for my netbook. As soon as I would log in to use my computer I found I only had a minute or two before it would automatically restart. I was able to keep my computer on long enough to learn that Microsoft Security Essentials was detecting a couple of obnoxious brats. The following are showing up on my netbook: Virus: Win32/sirefef.R Trojan: Win32/sirefef.AH I tried to use Microsoft Security Essentials to disinfect and remove these guys but my netbook would restart before I could accomplish anything. I used a search engine to find information on how to manually remove them; however, even in safe mode, my computer would restart before I could delete certain files or remove registry entries. I have another laptop I can use, which is what I'm using now, but I'd like to "clean up" my netbook because it's less than a year old. Are there any computer nerds/geniuses or brilliant computer people that can offer suggestions? Thank you!

If you were able to create a saved point then maybe you can restore from that point and then install a good antivirus like Avast or Avira. I like Avast for it's pre-boot scan feature, which gives you the option to do a whole scan before your operating system actually boots. As of now, I cannot think of another way than scanning the hard drive from another unit or reformatting it. Good luck though, and I hope this helps, and if not, then I hope somebody else gives a better help.

My son helped me fix it. When the computer would restart I would press F8 for the option of safe mode. There was also a choice called REPAIR COMPUTER. Then we decided to restore to a time before the time that the files became infected. After using system restore I was able to run a full Microsoft Security Essentials scan to correct the problem. Thanks for the information. I'm going to check into Avast in the future.

Do you have a USB flash drive that you can use? If you do, go to http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-rescue-cd and download the Rescue CD program. You should be able to get rid of the infection by using that program on the flash drive.

I once got a virus that works like that. Such programs will launch on startup of the computer. To go around it, you must be fast enough to get into your task manager during startup. Try to catch the suspicious programs in there and end their tasks immediately. I did tried this many times to be successful and get rid of such pesky virus.

You should see if that second one isnt part of the DSN virus that kicked in yesterday, keeping many from using the net. The FBI has a server and a site for tracking and cleaning it up. Luckily, I was not hit by last years virus that is rendering many peoples comps unusable. You should be able to find it googling FBI INTERNET WARNING
