If I Put it Away, I'll Loose It!

I will pass something out of place over and over again and notice it's location, failing every time to put it away. Then, when I finally do put it away, I can't find it! It has been out in the open so long my mind had fixed that spot as where it "belongs". It's gotten so bad, I'm AFRAID to put things away because I just know I'll forget where I put them! Does anyone else suffer from this dilemma? lol

Yes I also do have this dilemma and it has been for long so don't worry dear you are not alone and I suppose we are not just two but many. I am the most forgetful person in this world not because I am senile but because I have so many things in my mind and I am more busy than a bee. I think I just have to lessen my load.

I am not a very busy person, I think I'm just lazy lol. My mother thinks so too. She tells me "this wouldn't happen if you put things away right after you used them", but she does this, too lol

I sometimes have this problem, and I think it's because of the same reason as you, Salonga--I am always running in 15 different directions, juggling 10 different issues or problems, and so things sometimes slip--like where I just put something! I know I have to lessen my load, but every time I try, some other crisis arises. So I just keep losing things!

Exactly. Like those times when you JUST put something down somewhere, and you have to search the ENTIRE house before you find it or remember where. Or when you're looking for something, and then find something else you'd been looking for a few days ago! That's how I found my wallet: I was looking for my mom's cell. lol So we figure, the best way to find what you're looking for, is to look for something else. haha!

You're not alone, there are many who suffer from this affliction and I'm afraid there's no cure. Perhaps some placement counselling might be in the works but for now I would just accept the fact that if you put anything away you won't find it forever. LOL, been there, done that. I do like some things in their place but I'm not the neat freak who has to have everything in it's place at all times. There have also been times when I have had something in my room for example then the next thing I now it's disppeared and n o where to be found, such as a set of address labels long ago. I really loved them but they just disappeared and even after doing the entire room over I never ever found them. Quite disturbing to a point, too. But such is life.

Yes, our rooms can often become "black holes". I had a ring my friend had given to me in 8th grade, and when I moved away, I lost it in my new room. I knew the general area I'd lost it but when I looked and LOOKED: nothing. My room had swallowed it :(

I am a "out of sight, out of mind" person...if I dont' see it...I will forget about it or forget to do it. Because of that, my desk is always a mess...at least it looks that way. I just have piles of stuff, but I know what each pile is and what is in each pile and my "notice" to get things done is when the piles get to "high"! It sounds funny, but I do have "immediate attention" piles and "soon as I can" piles etc. Then one day, I just sit and take a pile and do whatever until that pile is gone! Works for me. And my husband has me paranoid about burglers...so I hide things and I know there is no way a burgler will ever find it.. problem is... I will forget the sure-safe place I put it! Happens all the time! One way that helps me with this is I write notes about where I have put things...and then put that in a place where I know I'll see it, like in my makeup drawer in an eye shadow case I use regularly. Lot of times I do forget I have done that, but then since I use that item at least every other day... I will find it sooner or later!

Seems like you have quite an elaborate scheme going. I find it funny that your husband scares you with talk of burglars. My mom and I are pretty poor, so she's usually like "what would we have worth stealing!?" lol
