Time really flies and after the closing in Beijing 4 years ago, the stage is set for the summer Olympics to begin in London. I am sure sporting enthusiasts will be waiting eagerly for this great event to see their favorite events and competitors take center stage. For me, I would really love to see Liu Xiang compete and hopefully win the Olympics gold medal which eluded him in Beijing 2008 where he withdrew from the 110m hurdles finals through an injury. It has been encouraging watching him compete around the world as he prepares for this event and with quite good results too. Let's hope that he will not be injured and most importantly peak in time for this event. The next track event will definitely be the mens' century sprint and the 200m which will feature the impressive world champion and last Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt. It seems like this year he will be facing some tough competition from his fellow countrymen who will be competing with him. I've read his claims that he could better the record set in Beijing and that the current record isn't his best performance. The next event would definitely be the weightlifting event where China nearly made a clean sweep in Beijing and world records were broken by the gold medalists. This year, the team is almost overhauled as most of the previous Olympiads were either injured or retired. You can say that the team is relatively new and I hope that they would not be overawed by the competition. Lastly, I would really like to see if Michael Phelps from America could achieve the formidable feat of winning 8 Olympic gold medals in swimming. He really had the world at his feet when he swam in Beijing, he was really incredible and outstanding. I am sure this current record will hold for sometime and I hope that he will be able to maintain his winning ways in London.

I am not a fan of the Olympics and the only event that I eagerly anticipated was the century sprint. That was because it was a straight fight between Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis. Other than that, all I do is to watch the day's highlights without paying much attention.

Yes, 4 years have flown by and we are now 15 days before the next Olympics. I am interested in seeing how India has progressed from the last Olympics which in terms of medals was India's best Olympics. I hope this year they do much better than that and probably get another Gold medal. But more than anything I am looking for the opening ceremony to see what London has to offer us!! Cheers! Ram
