Should the good also be punished?

I had put up a topic on "iwriter' who had banned India from participating but probably after several representations from pro actives like myself this ban on India has been lifted but what about the other countries? Why should this ban be country specific? Are all coming from those countries spammers? What about other countries which are not banned. Are there no spammers there? We all know what is going on in the world that does not exclude any country that is above board and so why this discrimination here? Your opinions are precious. Please do contribute.

I do think that a country-wide ban on people being able to access a site is not only wrong but extreme. However, I have read where some other sites have "had" to ban entire countries to try to correct the spam problems. The reasons given were that the handful of countries that were banned were responsible for a large percentage of the spam (something like 80%), so banning the entire country was easier to do in the short-term to reduce the amount of spam. Then, they were going to take care of the rest of the spammers individually while trying to isolate the majority of the spammers in other countries before lifting the ban on those countries.

I am glad to hear that the ban was lifted before it had an serious negative affects on the users in those countries. I suspect that the sites that I read about were smaller and did not have access to the same software that the site you are talking about does. I do not think that they should have banned an entire country. However, I can kind-of also see it from the side of the website. If the website is being bombarded by spam and it cannot handle the activity from its honest users due to the amount of spam, then I could understand why they might take the temporary measure of banning a couple of countries to reduce 80% of the spam until better and more appropriate measures can be taken. You also said that the site you were talking about did not give any notice to its members. I read about it in an article ... I can't remember where now ... so I imagine that they gave their members notice and a way to contact them if they felt they were being banned in error, especially since they stressed that it was just a temporary fix.

They have lifted the ban even before it could take effect so to say. I did raise a shindig in this regard and wrote to a couple of sources which may have had this effect. With the kind of software that is doing the rounds isolating individuals is not difficult. What they did was in bad taste.

Even if just one good, diligent, sincere or hardworking participant is affected if a whole country is banned it is wrong. Also do you know purple that no notice was given and no accounts settled? The articles written for the requesters in those countries would have remained unattended and thus the efforts wasted. Also what about those written articles that one would not have an access to. I do not copy articles written there.

Thank you allknowing, for your kindheartedness.. I am an Indian, but I think some Indians spam.I have seen this is in many forums and chat, they are forced to ban the IPs from India...I have fell victim to this a lot. I feel very sad,and feel that I am racially discriminated.I curse myself to have born in a poor country with insane people. THIS IS NO PRO SPAM... Indians are spamming because, they don't get any response for the question and discussions they post, because it will not have the desired quality, coz of all grammar mistakes.English is really the third language we are learning. We started to learn A,B,C in 5th standard. So you may say "why are you taking so much trouble, why do you post?";Thats a good question..I think you know the answer too.. But its no reason to spam. Those who spammers should be punished.. If you are outside US,UK, Canada and Australia, you are not going to get any surveys. (Even if you are largest consumer group in the world). The reason behind this is ...we people buy cheaper products without quality checks, unlike the 'developed citizens'.So there is only one Mantra for selling products in India..'substandard product at cheap prices'.Companies are the same, but products are different...A packet of Lays here contains all the bad virus infected potato.Government will give ISI and Green mark,if their pockets are filled. So its not racial discrimination thats causing the trouble..I don't think people care about race anymore. Its really the discrimination based on money.I mean poor or rich!! However you are not going to prevent these spammers from entering your site, just by banning Indian IPs.These guys will use fake IPs,to get into those sites and do there thing. Sorry if I used strong language,I wrote my emotions..not even checking for gramm errors!!

You must know that the ban on Indians has been lifted. It does not matter who spams and all spammers should be punished. You cannot generalise and say all Indians or all whichever country that has been banned are spammers. The site has an efficient system to isolate spammers regardless of which country they come from. They should use this system and not categorically spam countries. That is wrong.

I just received a message from 'iwriter support' where I had represented the case for lifting ban for all countries saying that they have lifted the ban. I am happy!

Racial discrimination for instance is universal. Just as during the time when the whites believed they were above the black race and the Germans superior over any other people..

Racial discrimination is on the decline as the gap between developed and developing nations is narrowing. There are several areas where developed countries are depending on developing countries and therefore they cannot afford to show such discrimination any more. 'Iwrite' is an isolated instance where an individual has displayed this attitude and this can be kept in check with proper representation.

The ban has been lifted. I just got an email in reply to the representation I had made to iwriter to lift the ban for other countries.

Should the good also be punished?... Just want to answer this query before going into details. All I know is good got reward and bad will be punished. Well, sometimes it made me think and ask myself why I was born in this 3rd world country. If we just have a choice we won't let ourselves live in a place where there's so much discrimination in any ways. Banning specific country is not good knowing that not all people on that certain country are bad/good. Wherever we go we can always encounter people who are good and at the same time bad. It all depends on us on how to deal with them. Happy mylotting!

This site belongs to someone who has the latest software some of which is his own creation with which he can easily identify spammers without having to axe countries per se.

As well know, Indians are best with regard to computers. It can be Software or hardware, they are very good at it. Kudos to them for that. Maybe this gonna be the main reason.

Hi allknowing, I had read many such complaints as Indians get banned in programs in online acts. It is not alone Indians, the list includes other Asian countries like Indonesia, Philippines, and most times China too. You know well they would give the reason as the cheaters are more from these countries alone. My views are they just want to suppress the speed of the work done as most of the people in these countries want to earn more in short time (and it is due to our economy). If most of us are running so fast they could not able to run the site for long and in the last they give the name that these countries have more spammers than others.

Hi friend, sad to hear about this, some sites are geo targeted and getting members from some particular countries, it doesn't mean the country members are scammers, but the site don't get any benefits by getting members from that country. Every one is looking for their profit, so only the site don't take members from India. We are not spammers, a lot of sites give opportunity for Indians, let join with them to prove yourself

You apparently did not read through the discussion as the situation has been reinstated and all countries banned are back. Their system needs to be fool proof leaving no loopholes for cheating and spamming and when this happens everyone including those sincere participants could breathe a sigh of relief. I have suffered here specially when requesters just reject articles giving preposterous reasons and despite reporting Admin is quiet about it.

It is a known fact that discrimination is still there all over the world. But I still wonder, why people make such discriminations so evident? They make it obvious by banning the country instead of that concerned spammer. I agree with you. Are there not any spammer in those un-banned countries?!

Brad Callen the CEO of 'iwriter' is a techie par excellence and he has an efficient system that can isolate spammers no matter from which country that spammer comes from. It is surprising therefore why he has done this.

what are the other countries which are banned? i am from the Philippines and I wanted to join iwriter too. I hope they do not have a ban on my country. Hmm.. In my opinion, there is a certain type of discrimination going on here. It is as if they think that those banned countries are not good in english and are spammers. They feel like we do not have the capacity to produce good articles and thus, they ban the country so no one is allowed to join. there are a lot of good english writers coming from these countries and they are not even looking at the potential in these countries. This is just sad.
