Bike to Work. cheaper and healthier.

I'm thinking of buying a bike so that I can just ride my bike to work. My office is just 30-minute walk from my house and I'm considering to save money from my daily transportation expenses. There are times that I run out of money so I end up borrowing money from my family or friends just for my fare. (shame on me but it happens to me sometimes when I overspend and I don't want to withdraw my savings. I am very strict on that.) So, sometimes I punish myself to walk to work. I hate it so it is also one way of controlling myself not to overspend. Anyway, let's get back to my bike. It's cheaper and healthier plus good for the environment. So, I think it would be great idea. Do you think it's better to ride a bike to work?? Does anyone here ride a bike to the office?? How is it?? Please share.

I believe that it is a good idea but there are some considerations you have to make. You have to make sure that it is actually safe to bike to work. I mean is the road you are going to use to go there not filled with buses and big vehicles. You should also consider the parking space for your bicycle. Where do you intend to park it once you get to work? If everything seems okay to you then I believe you go for it or at least try it out and see how it goes. It is definitely healthier and cheaper.

That's a good way to go at it, weigh all the pros and cons and maybe decide based on this. As for the parking, if you think you dot have a safe place for it in your work's parking area, then maybe you could find nearby spot for it where you can chain your bike without the risk of it being stolen or damage. Safety must always be your primary concern, your safety as well as your bike's. Good luck and I hope you make the right choice and be happy with whatever it is you decide.

that's one of my concerns.Where would I park my bike safely? I have no problem with the road because it is not too crowded. And, I just need to be very careful and alert. I'm listing the advantages and disadvantages now.

There are both advantages as well as disadvantages to biking to work. One advantage may be it's healthy but isn't it healthier if you walk? hehe.. Further, it's only going to be healthy to walk or bike to work if there is no pollution in the area to and from the office - however, if it's polluted with a lot of vehicles running about then it defeats the purpose of biking to be healthy. Another advantage is that it could be quicker for you to reach your office, as compared to walking, however, if there's no bicycle lane then it would still be more dangerous biking with other motorists. I guess the biggest disadvantage I see from biking is the fact that you'd need to shell out money then you'd have problems going out after work with friends - are you going to bring it to the mall or places friends would want to go to? are you going to leave it at the office? My partner did try to do the same. He bought a bike and did use it going to work. However, soon he just left it at home because he didn't want to smell all sweaty and icky in the morning. Not to mention that when it rains, he'd be forced to get wet rather than just taking the bus. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Omg! What if it rains??? I was just thinking of the cruel heat of the sun so I am consiering to buy a hat and a pair of sunglasses plus long sleeve jackets. But how about the rainy days? lol It must be hard. I don't want to get wet.Well, I can wear a raincoat. Oh, I'm sure I will look unique.hehe since I hardly see people wearing raincosts in my place.

The main reason why you don't see people wearing raincoats while biking is because it's difficult. Hahaha.. It's difficult to ride a motorcycle with a raincoat, yet alone ride a bike with it.

My husband walks or bikes to work. Lately he's been walking but he prefers to bike because it's faster. We only have one car, so if he drove I'd be taking the bus, and to park at his work he'd need a parking pass which is about $100 a month. What if you biked to work and each time you biked (or walked) you put the money you would have spent on fares aside? Then you could use the money you saved toward future fares or towards something fun for yourself.

here where i live, it is hard to bike to work every day just because we have ice and snow in the winter and in the summer, it gets really hot so you would have to take a shower by the time you get to work! i know a few people that bike to work from where i work but i don't.

if my work place is like with you work distance then i will use bike to go in that because aside from saving of money i could also do it as my exercise, and yes its cheaper but more healthier for us,but because my place is far in my work place i need to ride a bus.

I never experience going to work using bike because my previous job was too far from our home and i think i will take 3 hours before I can get there, but i always use my bike every time that i will visit my sisters and cousins and every time i will go in the market. Using bike really help when it comes to savings because using bike i don't need to spend for fare and gasoline. It also good for health because biking is also an exercise.

I've heard of a lot of people doing that these days. Especially since the price of gas has gone up. And it has the added plus of being good for the environment and good for exercise.

This is a good idea. In fact riding the bike is not tiring. It can be fun since you can also enjoy the scenes on the way. And it is a good exercise. You don't have to suffer the traffic jam and the terrible public transportation. I love China

As long as you can safely do it, bicycling to work makes sense if that's what you want to do. It is cheaper than paying to take public transit or owning a car. Plus, it is better for the environment, and you would be getting exercise. Just make sure that there's somewhere that you can change when you get to work. You don't want to wear your work clothes while bicycling.

If I work near by my office,I will ride a bike to work definitely, the traffic jam is very severe in my city.It is a such misery to go to work by bus. But the problem is:My company is very far away from my house,so I have to take the bus... I always dreams to have a job like this: lot of money, less tasks and near my house, lol.
