Where Have All the GroundHogs Gone?

Not that I miss them, I don't. They were such nasty buggers for so many years here in the summer. I dreaded doing the gardening for awhile, last year they chewed up my flowers and veggies to shreds. This year now I don't see even one around, and I'm happy. I did see a few earlier in the Spring but not since (and they didn't do much damage by just eating alittle the grass) Do you suppose someone else trapped them? Poisoned them? Or do they just all die off all at once never to reappear? I think this has given me a new lease on gardening now.

Around here it is very woodsy and people usually put up a fence around their gardens. I dont bother. What eats all my strawberries is the darn slugs. The other critters dont tend to bother the things in my garden that I've planted such as corn and potatoes. The deer do eat the apples though but the frost killed all the blooms so we dont have any apples growing on the tree this year :( I usually notice a lot of groundhogs on my property as well but havent this year. I'm sure they are around but I dont know why I havent seen them basking in the sun out in the field like usual. I know no one has trapped them or put out poison for them at least on my property. Perhaps they went to a nearby home and ate poison or something though.

I like woodsy areas, it's pretty cozy and serene in those type of surroundings. I would love to put a fence around the gardens, and was thinking of doing it, but not now. Just don't have the means. I'm glad the other critters don't bother your gardens, but those slugs can be a big annoyance. I have heard several kinds of ways to get rid of them. One is to put a tbsp or two of cornmeal in a jar. Lay it on its side wherever there is slug activity. The slugs love this stuff. After eating it they die. I'm glad you don't have GH either, they are a real nuisance.
