My computer stays on during the whole day. I wonder if it uses a lot of electricity. I feel lazy to shut down and log in each time so I leave it on. Please tell me what I should do?

It actually depends on what SMPS you have there. The lesser wattage SMPS the lesser energy it will consume.

Yes it will decrease the PC performance to some extent but it's the only real way to decrease the power consumption.

most computer specially laptops has 50 watts... if you need to know how much your spending on electricity you just had to multiply it. cost of watts per hour X wattage of your computer per hour... like for example; here in our country kilo watt per hour is $72 and my laptop consumes 50 watts: remember that 1000 watts is equal to 1kilo watt an hour $72 X 50w X 1 kwh ----- ------ = $3.6 1kwh 1000 w so i am spending $3.6 per hour on my electricity.

$72...X 50w...X 1kwh ---- ..........------ ......= $3.6 1kwh...........1000w just don't look at the dots mylot is changing the lay out of the page like what happened above... i need to place the dots to a line the digits that is to be multiplied in this equation.

1000 w is suppose to be under the 1kwh to be able to cross multiply the 50 w with 1000 w. you know the equation thingy.

I think it does...is your computer, a personal one? with all the printer and speakers and monitor.. if it's like that, then it uses lots of electricity, unless if it's on power saving mode. Maybe you should get a laptop, they conserve less energy.

I could say that computer will not consume much electricity . By following some methods you can strictly restrict the use electricity. You can turn off your monitor when you are idle or even in a virus scan. Moreover you can use an LCD monitor instead of CRT, for better control of electricity.

It all depends on the computer. A high end gaming computer left on constantly could amount to maybe $100 a year (at least with the current cost of electricity in Canada). A smaller computer left idle constantly would use less, but it will simply depend on your PSU (Power Supply Unit) and your components.

I also think that high end gaming computer consumes more electricity than the other electricity. I think it is good to switch off computer or monitor when you do not want to use. Switching off the monitor will help to save some electricity.

Like anything else that uses electricity, it takes more energy to turn something on and off then to lerave it on for a period of time.

Hi Nope, computers don't eat um more power. I have heard that they take quite less power in compare of TV. So I don't think it will be problem for you... Just make sure more use of it don't hurt your eyes.. Electricity will be not problem.

As much as I know, I do not think computers use alot of electricity but you can always set it to go off when you are not using it to conserve electricity.

It depends on how many computer accessories you are using. On a desktop computer, by just using the system unit, monitor, mouse, and keyboard, the energy it uses is almost the same with a television, but lesser. Additional electricity adds up when using speakers and printers, and others. In addition, it also depends on your computer's requirements.

Computers do not use a lot of power when you use it for general purpose things like the internet and email, but if you use video editors or high graphics games or lots of burning discs then they use slightly more power. In our household we have 3 pc's and 2 laptops running 24hrs a day and they don't use a lot of electric consumption.

If you are using pc.my Monitor consumes 100watt per hour and cpu consumes 60watt per hour.Total 160watt per hour.It slightly differs to your pc.But in case of laptop it depends on your laptop charging, discharging abilities.Nothing you can do,only thing is stop feeling lazy,i.e correct way to reduce consumption.

You can customize the power management to turn off the display and then, after a while, enter stand-by, if you leave your computer on a lot and you're worried about power consumption. Some hardware manufacturers also have software options to reduce power consumption for their products. I personally don't use them.

I do not think that computer consumes lots of electricity, but I would suggest you to switch on the computer as far as possible so that you can save some electricity. I would suggest you to switch off the monitors when you are not using the computer and the switching off the monitor you will be able to save some electricity.

One of my friends told me that a computer does not use a lot of electricity. I am like you. I keep it on throughout the day. I do a lot of online work to earn money so I have to keep coming back to log into different sites. However, the computer is a machine and it might start giving problems if it is overheated or over-used. So we should try to switch it off when we have done our work. Have a nice day.

Computer uses electricity but just as much as a Television and even less with the latest hardware and architecture. Use Screen off, or stand by or Hibernate as the best practice to conserve electricity as well as your work.

Well, I think it does. Everything that stays plugged will consume electricity. Try to force yourself to unplug these unused items/appliances. Then you should check you electricity bill LOL Maybe you will be shocked. Happy mylotting.

it depends on how much AC does your laptop needs. if you are lazy to shut it down you can always put it on sleep condition, but still you need to sign in if you have password but you can always customize your sleep condition if you want to have password on awakening or not
