Times are Changing...

Often I hear my grandmother or parents talk about how things were different during their youth. I used to dismiss this information because I thought of them as just being old. However, as I grow older, I am starting to realize that so many aspects of the world -- technology, global warming/weather, contraversial issues, and religion -- have changed drastically even during my lifetime. What such change had the most significant impact on you and why? I would say that mine was the popularity of cellular phones. As a child, I would have never thought that I would be able to contact my parents, my friends, anyone if they were not at work or at home. The fact that you can now reach them just about everywhere at any time is not only a convenience but also a comfort. What is yours?

I have good knowledge of Computer Science, however I often become speechless by the speed at which IT develops, and by how our relation as humans to technology tightened in time. It's obvious all developed societies depend on technology and computers, and would be drawn back hundreds of years without them. But how soon do we become slaves of technology, individually? Personally, I had the first real encounter with computers in my 6th grade. Up until then, I was a "normal" kid, playing around with a bunch of other kids and usually a ball. Nowadays, I see kids that cannot get separated from their games from the age of 3 to 4. That's to much, even for me, who understand and appreciate the need of this IT era!

When I said there are kids that you can hardly separate from their games from the age of 3 to 4, I meant VIDEO GAMES. I felt this explanation is appropriate, since I forgot to make the necessary distinction in my original post.

I think it would have to be the advent of online gaming and other computer games. Back when I was a kid, me and my friends will actually go out and play real games: games that involved our bodies and set rules and teaming-up. Now, my younger siblings never see the light of day because after school, they rush to do their homework to spend time playing their games picking up where they last saved it. Same thing happens during weekends. We have to drag them out to go out and have some family time, and only then will they see mother nature. But then, they always carry those pesky PSPs wherever they go so...
