I admit, I feel so lost in the kitchen. Oh sure I can whip up an egg or two but sometimes, even fool proof pasta fails in my hands.
But despite its taste, my husband will still eat it and even say its nice, honey! Only for me to take a bite and be shamed for it tastes awful. Whenever I told him that he lies about my cooking, he will just say that it's just a little bit heavy on the, let's say, pepper, but it's perfectly fine for him. He's such a dear.
I don't want to stretch his patience with me and my cooking so I'm doing my best to learn his favorite dish by starting on the basics.
Do you also cook? Does your significant other likes your cooking? Who cooks better between you two?

Hello Raine, I was like that when i first started to cook. I was calling mom to ask her for every spice I have at home to put it or not.
Soon I started to learn and remember which is good mixed with the other things I want to put in the pot or pan and I build up knowledge, very slowly.
My boyfriend was just like that when we first started to live together. I was making simple things like frying eggs, making salads, using hotdogs and making them with yellow cheese inside. Gladly we moved away of his family at the summer, so I could use vegetables a lot, for decoration mostly of different simple dishes.
My boyfriend doesn't think he needs knowledge in cooking. He can fry potatoes, make potatoes salad or fry eggs.

Hi Suggar, thanks for sharing! I would also like to build up my cooking skills that way, and eventually have a signature dish that my family can just say that only I can do justice on :) I know I'm still far from that and too ambitious of me but I know I'll get there. ;)

My hubby was a Japanese cook during our college days and is fond of cooking. He's even good in haggling for the best buy in the market. I felt the same before but because he is an important person in my life, that is why I have tried to make the best. Just for sharing, I learned that cooking is also an expression of your care and love for your family. Having this, I make sure that the food I cook and serve them is delicious and nutritious. I do some research on the internet on budget and easy to cook recipes. I also learned that patience is part of cooking and it does show your emotions. There was a time that I got colds and was not feeling well when I cooked a meal. I know that I have given effort and the right ingredients but it did not taste that good for I was not feeling well. It has shown in the dish I cooked.
So with this, even with not so much knowledge, I certainly believe that cooking is an expression of your love to your family. So always be happy when cooking.

I agree! Once I was making eggs over easy for the hub ( and I have perfected eggs over easy just the way he likes it). But despite my desire to serve him his dish with all the love and care that I have for him, the eggs didn't come out good at all, that time I'm having cramps. So yeah, I agree with you about feelings and these being a major player on how the food turns out.

Practice makes perfect & good for u for trying. That is aot more than alot of young women do.Your husband is very sweet to encourage u like he does.I do cook & like to. In fact i cooked for my parents before i ever left home . They both worked so it helped my mother out to not have to come in & cook after a hard day's work. U just keep on trying, u will be an expert first thing u know.

I am a good cook, and my boyfriend likes the vast majority of what I cook. Of course, I had years to perfect my cooking skills before he and I moved in together. I used to cook for my housemates; so I already had significant experience cooking for others.
What I have really improved since my boyfriend and I moved in together is my plating. I have started focusing a lot more on the presentation of the food. I am working to get all of my dishes to look like they could be photographed and featured in a food magazine.
My boyfriend does not cook. He has tried once since we've been together. He made popcorn in a big pot. Rather, he blackened popcorn in a big pot and filled the entire place with smoke... Yeah...
I cook. He washes the dishes. It is a good arrangement, and it is one that is less likely to risk a visit from the local fire fighters.
