Where does our personal freedom ends?

There are some quotes that I follow in my life but I usually don't remeber who has said them! One of them is about personal freedom. I have read somewhere that: "Our personal freedom ends where the other's person's freedom starts." What do you think about this quote? I see it from both sides (the start and the end). First it's my view as a person that has freedom and wants to use it, and also as a person that feels that other people's freedom might affect mine.

if I may argue, that one's freedom ends at the beginning of their marriage. When a person was a single who could freely as he wishes, then he will feel limited to doing things freely when they get married, perhaps because their spouse or parent. That's all i know based on my friends experience. But, i don't know the author of quote that you mention above..

I hope you like this parallelism. That is all this is meant to be nothing more. We are all having a relationship with this web site correct? It is a marriage of sorts. Now, plekenut your avatar is interfering with my enjoyment. I’m repelled by smokers in real life and appalled by babies that smoke even if they wear helmets (in real life I watched a parent give their young child a smoke at a party). You most certainly have a right to choose any avatar you like as I do yet where does our personal freedom end? Is this on topic with the topic? For a freindly discussion only – anyone?

Haha :) I like your parallelism! Even in a marriage or in the family, all individuals should feel that they have their personal freedom and don't cross the lines. This can be applied in many ways, and it's wrong when we try to take away the freedom of choices from others.

actually, i agree with that. But in life, i really want to freedom 100%, even though i know that is impossible. There are several rules that we can't cross its line.

Yes, that's a form of freedom too! People has the right to do whatever they want inside the house they live. This is part of their personal space, they can invite other people if they like but their rules apply in their own home.

I think freedom ends when we give it away

I always told my children that their freedom ended when ther stepped on the corns of my toes (not that I had any). But what I meant is that a person´s freedom ends when you push someone around to feel perfectly free. That is licentiousness and I feel that way not only with individuals but also with governments and countries.

Yes that can be applied further and not only for individuals! I think it is a very useful quote for people to know and follow in their lives. We should be aware of our limits and the effects of our actions and we can be free without entering other people's personal space and freedom!

I don't know who said it but I agree. I sometimes give a little space between my freedom and the next person's freedom.

Thanks Kosta! We all need space sometimes and we need to feel free. Freedom is a wonderful feeling and no one has the right to take it away from others.
