Hubby went to the dentist yesterday to have a tooth filled. He always has dental proceedures done with not pain killer. I can't even stay in the room to watch this. I am one of those people who when the dentist says open wide I say where's the pain killer, Have you ever met anyone who felt no pain in their mouth? Or maybe you are one of these luck people?

Hello Savypat, I would say your husband is a very brave man. I have such fear of dentists, that I haven't visited any of them for like longer than 10 years. Even if I have very bad problems with my teeth I wouldn't go until it starts hurting so bad that I can't resist the pain. But I strongly admire people who fight with their fear of pains.

The point here is that he doesn't feel any pain. I don't know why , he just doesn't at lease in his mouth, believe me he was knocked out for heart surgury.

Hi savypat, I am not one of those lucky people! I once went to a dentist who was in a hurry and didn't wait for the pain killer to take effect. You would be correct in saying that I never entered his clinic again. The dentist that I see now is terrific and I refuse to see another. Blessings.

My mom was allergic to novacaine and most painkillers. The dentist would give her a valium and headphones so she could listen to music. It was still uncomfortable but bearable. I absolutely could not have a tooth filled without painkillers! Your husband is a brave man!

I have always been like that. No pain killers. I don't know about now though. I do have to go to the dentist for my upper back tooth. It has been bothering me on and off for months now. I am not afraid of dentists, but I know it is annoying. So thats why I avoid going. This time though he might have to give me a local in order to do what needs to be done. But up to now I have never used any kind of pain killer for dental work.

Oh wow, he's so lucky! I have a very low threshold for pain, but of course I dont wanna overdo the anesthetics or pain killer, neither do I wanna be dependent on it every dental check up. I can hold pain but not that much. By this time my dentist knows when he needs to drill deeper and when to hand over the pain killer just in time.

Until I was 21 I never once had anaesthetic for dentistry. Then I had a new dentist and he gave ma shot automatically. I've always had painkiller since. I don't really need it as I can usually cope with a little discomfort if it means that I have my moutn working normally afterwards. I don't like the numbing sensation much. I was knocked out completely when I had my kidney operation though. There are limits to my bravery!!

Hi savypat, Your husband is one of the few lucky people who have high pain threshold. Apparently being able to tolerate pain has nothing to do with being brave. Of course if one tries very hard one can tolerate more pain than one usually does but there's a limit to how much. So if you have to visit the dentist be sure to ask for some pain killer. You'll be so glad you did.
