Freelancing

I have never thought about holding a job as a freelancer. However, after applying and being interviewed for a position, I have been offered a job which would be a freelance position. Have you ever held a freelance position and if so, what are the advantages and disadvantages of having one?

I freelance quite a bit. It's not really "a position" because you're on your own. The biggest advantage I think is freedom. I can take off when I want to and work when I want to. The biggest disadvantage is having to constantly be on the alert for opportunities because you have to find your own work.

Given these advantages and disadvantages, would you recommend it?

It wouldn't be wise to make a recommendation without considering the type of person and the situation. If one is a good self starter, enjoys working alone but can cooperate when necessary, is able to take criticism in stride and doesn't panic when the money is late coming, then, yes.

I've done work on my own so I suppose that qualifies me. The advantage is you have more control over your work and can make decisions on things like what you will charge. The disadvantage is the opposite on the same points being that it requires more responsibility on your part.

i am not sure about freelance having a position. what i know about freelance is that you can do your work in your own place and time in accordance with your deadline. you may seek projects but you can decide whether to accept to do them or not. the advantage of freelance is the freedom of time and place of work. however, you have to build yourself first before you can be freelance.

There is a period where I worked freelance. The advantages includes having flexible hours and the ability to earn more. The downside, irregular income and if the market is bad, there is the possibly of having no income for a long period.
