His boss (a VP) invited them to watch Batman with him

I find this hilarious. My husband is out of town for a business review at the main office with their big bosses and clients. After the stressful but successful presentation, their boss, a business leader and vice president, invited them for dinner and a movie right after. They were a group of 5 men, at senior manager and director level.
I see this a lot at rank and file level, where officemates would go out and see a movie together, but as you go up the ladder, these type of bonding moments will slowly vanish. Perhaps, dinners would suffice for a quick gathering, but watching a movie???
I wonder how they look like lining up together - an Indian boss, 2 Scottish and 2 Filipino directors.

This is connected with what I am doing now on how to be good supervisor or boss. They said that dinner is fine but boss should avoid after office hours party or gathering. However, your hubby's boss might be overwhelmed so he treated his colleagues to a dinner and movie afterwards. It my just be a reward. You are right that those bonding momments will become rare as the rank increases but remember that his boss might undergone the rank and file positions before he reaches his current level.
Good day!

It just seems very unlikely to go on a movie together for their level. I don't even go out to a bar with my subordinates, at senior manager level. I mean, there are things you'd want to keep them from seeing about you.
Oh well, maybe its his thing.

As boss or supervisor, you really need to maintain the established line between you and them so they will still have the respect for you as their boss. Regular hangouts with your subordinates might create problems in your workplace. That is according to the handouts I am reading for my presentation.

When I was handling the training team, I heard rumors about 2 of my trainers going out with their trainees and that they were making a good show in front of them. They said that the two were making out, and was thought to have been so drunk to even realize that their trainees were looking at them. So, I called for an informal meeting with the two and gave them a chance to explain what really happened. Apparently, they denied. Oh well, 2 against 20 trainees who attested to their mischievious acts. I just gave them a warning and an advice at the same time. It didn't reach the HR so, we didn't have to make a big fuss about it.

This is pretty funny, but maybe he really has no one else to see the movie with, and didn't want to go alone? Or, depending on where they are, maybe there really isn't anything else to do and he figured it was better than just sitting at the hotel bar (or alone in their hotel rooms)? Did they all get their own popcorn or did they get one big bucket and share?

Maybe it was some kind of test--did any one in the group have the nerve so say "no thanks?"

It really is funny. I couldn't believe what I heard when my husband told me about the movie date. I thought he was just joking. And, the boss is some 6feet tall guy, and the rest of the gang are about the same height at 5feet 6 inches. They'd look like a father with his sons from different mothers..hahaha!

They all went, all 5 of them. He said that his boss is always like that. He would invite them out after the big event. When they were in the US before, he would take them out to the casino, to a restaurant, etc.. but this is the first for a movie. They also don't get to hang out all the time, since the boss and the other 2 guys are in the main office and him and the other guy are based here in our place. So, its like a bonding moment for them.

It is a bit unusual, but at least it was an innocent enough way for the group to bond. That is certainly a lot better than dragging them out to a bar or a strip club or leading them into some other sort of trouble.

That's a good point. I should be happy his boss is not sort of a maniac. There are other bosses who are foreigners in our place who would really look out for those clubs and would openly talk about it to their subordinates.
