Is DOH concealing the real case about the Enterovirus71 in the country

I hope you've heard about that killer virus in Cambodia. It was reported that over 40 kids died of the Enterovirus71. They call it the new Polio. At first they said Philippines is clear of this deadly disease. They make it sound like there was nothing for us to worry about. Then, earlier today there was a news of 1 kid that was positive of the virus from Davao(if i remember it right). What would be next - 3 kids, 1 barangay, an epidemic? Perhaps, they just want to avoid having chaos and panic over this fatal virus. But, educating the people would be more helpful at this stage.

I think we have one confirmed case in Mindanao. I just do not know how this was able to enter our country since the kid was exposed locally. Well I just hope that there would be no more additional cases from happening since we were able to detect one then it can be prevented to further spread the disease.

I do hope they were able to contain it and we don't have to worry about the virus becoming an epidemic.

I do hope its gone for good. I have a month old baby and a 4year old toddler, both are very vulnerable to viruses.

In this case, I don't think the government is hiding anything, I do not think they have reason to do so, besides we have a free, sometimes too free media that nobody can hide anything, it's all around looking for a sensational or to sensationalize news, that's media in the Philippines. Anyway, DOH has advised that washing hands is one of the best prevention, it's a self limiting disease, you can read some of the facts here http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/-depth/07/20/12/fast-facts-about-hfmd-and-enterovirus-71

Yes because if you read the article very well and closely, these are findings by the U.N. World Health Organization, it's not something the local DOH or anybody made up or just fabricated. Everybody loves a conspiracy theory but speculating and spreading things that are in a way baseless would cause more harm and panic. I think the main concern would be when the virus mutates and transforms itself to a more highly virulent strain then that would be concern. Almost all Asian countries have their version of that virus, so having someone infected does not necessarily translate that it was contacted from Cambodia or it's the same strain. Until then let's just follow what WHO prescribes and one of it is washing the hands, how do we know more than them? They are researchers and scientists.

last I heard, that child that got infected has already recovered so I don't think DOH is hiding anything.

It is not most likely to happen in our country, the babies had polio vaccines. It would not be possible to be infected with the polio virus. Unless, the babies are far from the health care facilities, no chance for them to avail. It is susceptible to be prone with polio virus.

I guess the polio cases has been minimized here in our country, too, if not eliminated totally.
