Midnight Brownout

It was 11:20pm, Saturday night. We were already asleep when suddenly I heard my 2y.o. son crying. I immediately got up and in the dark I managed to grab and embrace him. I thought he was afraid of the dark. He fell back to sleep after he felt me. There I realized there was a brownout. My husband also woke up. We reached for our cellphones and made it as temporary flash lights. I looked for the flashlight and let it on so we can see the kids.
After 30 minutes, it was getting warmer and our 5month old baby is already starting to complain. I grabbed for a folder which i used as a fan. Later my 2y.o. son is the one complaining again. My husband and I haven't sleep because we need to fan air to our little boys.
The current went back at 1:30am. I just can't imagine we were up for 2 hours to fan our kids. Our arms were already tired and painful. When I turned on the a/c again, I really felt such a relief.
It's really a piss to encounter things like that without being notified earlier...

what a shame your little one was frightened and how awful for you.Having to keep the little one cool for two hours. We get black outs here as well normally some little devil has stolen the cables ,cable theft is rife as metal is worth so much.Thieves risk their life for a few pound.

Oh that's more awful! You get blackout because cables were stolen. It needs not just two hours, but a day or more than that to restore the current. It is also happening here but they do not get the live wires, they only steal those inactive lines.
Oh well, after hearing from asdomencil who commented before you, that her experience is 4 hrs, and yours is much serious, I realized I am still lucky to have experienced only 2 hours. lol!

We also experience that with our 2 year old son. There was a borwnout her in our subdivision one time and our son could not sleep without us to fan him. Wheever we stopped, he will ccry and asked us to fan again. The brownout runs for about 4 hours.

I can understand it's really hard to fall asleep when the weather is very hot, especially when we are staying in the tropical country. There were a few times the current was cut off in the midnight without we being notified. Fortunately, my son can always sleep well in the middle of the night, whether it's very hot, or the newborn little sister is crying loud.
I can imagine how tired you were when you are fanning your kids for two hours, sometimes when my son and I wait in the car, while my husband goes down to buy something, the car engine is always off, and I need to fan myself and my son for awhile, and it's really tiring.

Hi. In India we have current cuts for one hour every day. But sometimes there are a lot of unshceduled power cuts and it can go on for hours together making it difficult for children and others to stay inside the house. A few days back, we had a low voltage and even the fans were running very slow. The nights were terrible and one fine day, we had no electricity from morning till night. This went on for 2 days
and finally, we got it back on the third day. I should have lost around 1 kg sweating for two full day.

We also have experienced that (daily rotational brownout) here in the Philippines some 2 years ago. That was the reason why our company bought a generator so our operations will not be disturbed. it has been a long time already since we did not experience sudden brownout, they always notify us in advance if they are conducting some line repairs, or line improvement, etc. It was our first time again after a long time to encounter such. Maybe it will not really be a bit disturbing because they know people are asleep and it is more colder at night than at daytime. But it's such a problem for kids especially babies to experience that. I've been thinking now of purchasing a rechargeable fan.. but i do not have a budget yet... sigh...

It is reall hard to have eletricity interruption or brownout in the middle of the night where all are asleep then kid will cry due to darkness. They will keep complaining how hot it is. I cant really get back to sleep especially when the weather is hot and all I have to do is get a fan to ease the heat.
Good thing that it wont last that long so everything was back to normal.

yes, even adults complain about the hot temperature. It would be better if it is raining, but if it's not, it's really hot to be inside the house even though the windows are open. With the current global warming, it is really getting hot even at night...
