Making your own food items vs using store bought canned/jarred items

Today one of the things I did was make homemade vegetable stock. We have a juicer so we keep all of the pulp plus I keep odds and ends of evegtable - celery, onion, garlic, mushrooms, ect - to make vegetable broth with. Today's stock was mostly carrot & kale, but it had some bell pepper, portobello mushroom and onion in it as well. I do this for 2 reasons: one to save money and two because store bought broth is filled with sodium and sometimes chemicals. Do you make homemade stock or other items (maybe tomato sauce, bread, past, ect)? If so, why do you do it?

I made my own vegetable stock once, but to use right away, I have never canned it before. Since I only made it once, (and I lost the recipe) I didn't make it again and I am just now experimenting with canning jam. I will have to search for a good and "easy" homemade veggie broth but I have a question. Is there any tips on canning it? I mean I know the amount of time I use for canning jam and I wonder if there is something different when canning other foods I need to know???

I don't can vegetable stock. Yesterday I made a huge pot, just some of it to cook the black beans in. The rest I let cool down on the stove and when it was room temperature, I placed it in plastic bags and it went right into the freezer. When I need vegetable stock I will either defrost it ahead in the fridge or just place the frozen in a pot and heat it up.

Making your own food would be better because they are cheaper, safer and certainly not that much chemicals. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford the time to spend on making their own food or their own preserved fruits.

For the longest time I felt that way, but really it takes almost no time at all to do these things. You can do them while you are cooking dinner.

Yes I agree making food items at home is very good option rather than buying it from market. Making the items like tomato sauce or jam at home guarantees that it is made in a full hygienic atmosphere. Also as correctly said by you it certainly saves money. Also a feeling of self made makes one satisfied when consuming it. Also the wastage is reduced. I feel occasionally buying food items from outside is good but daily required things should as possible be made at home itself.
