I'm not really sure what the real effect whether damage or dis-charge the battery. But for sure there is an effect because it is not normal using the mobile phone while charging - as I know it is danger to use.

Because of my work, I use my cell phone a lot... I'm constantly on the phone while it's charging... Since I got he phone I have now 2 years ago, I've never really had battery problem... I go through 2,500 - 3,000 minutes of voice calls every month... Matter in fact, I charge my phone at least twice a day & that's not counting being plugged in while I'm driving & talking... I have Bluetooth built into my car so all I have to do is turn my car on & my phone automatically hooks up to it... I was doing the same thing when I had my blackberry... I was on that phone even more than I am now with my current phone... Phone battery usually goes by "charging cycle" rather than years anymore...
