Our accident. . .update

Okay, I shared about the fact that I was rear-ended on Friday as the kids and I were heading home after Paul's vaccines to get him into school in a few weeks. Immediately after the accident, I had some back pain going on and until today it has continued to get worse. I called my family physician today to have a follow-up with them and was going to call Kathryn's pediatrician to have her checked out as well because she has been complaining about her back hurting. My family physician doesn't see MVA patients and recommended me to a different doctor, who was able to get both of us in two and a half hours after I called. The doctor started by checking me out and noted that the tendons in my neck are extremely tight. He wanted to immediately do a cortizone shot to help to numb it and to loosen it up as well. He also wants me to see a chiropractor tomorrow and I started some physical therapy today (which does include a 15 minute massage at every session, I'm in heaven I've never had a massage before). Next he checked out Kathryn and noted that the tendons in her neck are extremely tight as well. She was able to get off without a shot, but does have to see the chiropractor and started physical therapy with me today. We both have to have x-rays as well, have to wait for the diagnostic center to call us about that. Overall, I'm still quite upset about it and even more so because of the fact that my daughter was injured. The police report is not available at this point in time, but I will be pressing charges against the driver of the other vehicle because he rear-ended us and now two out of three of us were injured.

I am sorry that you and your daughter are badly hurt. I am glad that both of you were able to get an apointment the same day and are getting the care you need. I hope you can get the police report soon and will be able to press charges. The driver deserves to be broke and does need to pay for his wreckless driving.

I don't really feel like the guy needs to be broke, but I do believe that I will have to prosecute in order to get some of the money back that we are out of pocket because of the accident. So far it has been ibuprofen for Kathryn, time off of work for Tom and also paying for someone to watch Paul while Kathryn and I are at the doctor's office.

Oh gosh, sorry to hear now two of you are injured! It's really strange how the pain in injuries are sometimes delayed - I hear that often with car accident related injuries. Hubby and I were just talking about the car accident we were in like 25 years ago . . . and I remember feeling pretty fine after the accident, but the next day my legs felt like someone had been punching them - AND they were indeed black and blue (I don't know how - I don't remember hitting my legs up against the dashboard or anything!!). Hopefully and and Kathryn's backs will be pain free soon . . . sending quick healing vibes your way!!!!

It is odd that the pain sometimes does take some time to show up. I really thought that both of the children were going to be just fine and then over the weekend Kathryn did start to feel bad. Thank you so much for the quick healing vibes.

For me, these shots weren't too bad. However, they were doing a tendon that isn't really deep my tissue. I would imagine that if they were to go deeper into your body then it would be something that would be quite painful.

Gosh, I am sorry that you were both hurt but glad it wasn't any worse. Hopefully when you both go to be adjusted you both start to feel much better. I agree that pressing charges is probably the best bet for you to atleast get your car damages and medical bills covered.

We had the first set of adjustments yesterday and I definitely have to say that it seems to be making a difference for me. I'm still sore, but I can tell that some of the pressure that I was feeling is starting to let up some.

Accidents are the pits. I'm sorry you had to be in one and that you and your daughter got injured. I've been rear-ended myself a couple of times, but I wasn't as badly injured as you seem to be. I'm glad you are both being treated. I don't envy you the hassle you will probably go through with the insurance companies. I hope it all turns out well for you.

I have been rear-ended before and though we were hit by a vehicle that was much larger than mine, it didn't hurt me or Kathryn at all (she was three months old at the time). This time the car was smaller than ours, and we believe it might have lifted my car off of the ground and then dropped it back down and that is the reason that there are injuries.

I am actually very happy with the medical practice that we are seeing right now. We see the doctor every two to three weeks and have therapy starting at three times a week and tapering down once we are better. Also, we get chiropractic adjustments every time that we go in for physical therapy and that should help a lot.

The massages are definitely really nice. Now that I've had them for medical reasons, I don't think that I will ever be able to go without getting regular massages again in my life.

The thing that I am discovering is the best about the massage therapy is that it really gives me a little bit of time where I can relax. You know having two children at home it is difficult to really relax.

Well I for one hope you both get better soon....having a sore back sure limits you to what you can do! I have only had one massage...it was awesome!

Having a sore back is something that does restrict you. Then if you add that to the very stiff neck, there is not much that you can really do except to stay still and have tunnel vision.

I didnt see your other post about getting in an accident :( I am so sorry to hear that. Sounds like you were hit in the back end pretty hard for it to cause you and your daughter back problems. Its one thing if we are hurt but its really tough when our children are hurt especially when its something like that which is someone elses fault. I really hope that you guys get better soon but until then enjoy those massages.

Both of us are enjoying the massages. What is funny about this is that today my mother was giving us a ride to the treatment and she was a little bit later than she had planed on being. Kathryn was getting very upset about the fact that it took us longer to get our massage than we ha d planned on.

Yes, they have been very helpful with us to this point in time. I really stinks that we are still in waiting to get the car checked out, but ultimately Kathryn and I are both far more important than the car.

dorannmwin: Sorry to hear about the accident and the injuries caused to you and kids. It is good you take a follow up treatment properly and I wish you and the kids get cured fully early.

I do consider myself to be very lucky that we were able to start getting medical treatment soon after our accident. I am sure that because of the early intervention that Kathryn and I have gotten we will be able to make full and complete recoveries.

I hope everything will be alright. Accidents are accidents. It happens and will caught us in an off-guard moment even how prepared we are if others are that careless. Good thing that you already pressed charges so that things will be resolved in time. Take care and be healthy.

You are absolutely right that it is a good thing that I got the ball rolling as quickly as I did. I really hate it when you have to wait on someone else to get things taken care of.
