When I was a child a toddler, it it inevitable that my milk teeth started to fall out. My grandmother used to instruct me to throw the tooth on the roof of our house. Believing that a mouse will take the tooth, then bring back a new one as a trade. In western, the milk teeth is given to a Tooth Fairy.

Oh I do have the same beliefs in my younger years too. I guess our parents just want to assure us that a new tooth will grow back and our innocence as a child was used to better explain things to us.

I agree. I hope you didn't experience the scariest statement from the elders during your childhood years, that the rice we had eaten will come out from our abrasions or wounds.LOL The elders wanted us to be careful and not to scratch our skin in any ways.

@Shavkat I think I heard that story but my grandparents and parents never used that story to me.. Funny thing was that our roof before was two storey high that is why it took me time before I could shoot it on our roof.

@Shavkat I've never heard of that before. I mean teeth being thrown on the roof etc. Very cute! For me, it was place my tooth somewhere and in the morning, I will have some money from the tooth fairy.

I guess my grandparents were so traditional during my childhood years. They may not know about the fairy tale and the like. But I love how they shared their thoughts about it.

@VivaLaDani13 I agree. People have their own versions. If I have all the time, I will try to find the origins of these stories.

I also tell my son that when his tooth falls out, then the Tooth Fairy will give him a present. I do so as my son is afraid to go to see the dentist as sometimes his tooth will not fall out naturally. I want to do something to encourage him that the teeth falling out is a natural thing. I love China

I had consulted a dentist that it is okay for the kid with milk teeth to fall off naturally. Since it might traumatize the kids if extracted the tooth by a dentist.

I do think mothers have their own ways of explaining it. But, the principle is still the same.

When I was a kid we are also particular in many many superstitious beleif like what you are talking. To add in your fallen tooth if the tooth came from upper part it will throw to the ground and from lower part should be in the roof. In a modern era those superstitous are like an air passing by to us..

It is different beliefs of different places. I really don't know if its a myth. In my place, my granny used to say that the rat took my tooth. I was never told about tooth fairy. I came to know about tooth fairy when i saw the movie 'Tooth Fairy'.
