Is there anyone here who writes just to get stuff off their chests? I mean, freewriting is such a relieving activity. The whole "write about anything you can think about without thinking" concept should be taught to people who have so much stress in their lives. It's uplifting, to say the least.

I haven't freewriting, but I always write to relieve myself and get rid of the streets. It works for me. I usually blog about stuff happening to me or if someone has hurt me, but sometimes I write novels, novellettas, dramas, poems, lyrics and... well, it's a good way to get rid of that kind fo anxious energy I have. And that wayx I can use it as inpsiration :).

The many methods of freewriting can bring out the best in anyone, even non-writers. It allows you to spark up those weird thoughts out from your brain and permanently store them on paper. I love the fact that you can come up with the most brilliant and most heartfelt ideas when you freewrite.

I used to do that a lot in high school, which was like ages ago(don't ask me when!hehe, but I wrote two articles for Mod Jr Magazine using the good ole typewriter, with the articles typed double-spaced), but somehow, studies (I meant to be a writer but I turned out to be an accountant)got in the way.Dunno if the numbers did something in my head, but the flow, the beauty, the symmetry of writing something left me. I meant to do it every year,as a new year's resolution, signed up with Live Journal to write just about anything, but failed to complete it anyway. Hopefully, myLot would bring back the flow, so to speak. Would try to apply for some online writing jobs...Any suggested sites to try?

Hi inkyboz: I am one of these persons who writes to feel relieved and it really works when I am stressed or worried. It can be helpful when you express your feelings putting the things that you probably won't say in public in a paper. Sometimes it can help people to put their ideas in order.

Well if I'm frustrated or stressed about something and want advice I'll just write here and talk to people and that's what usually makes me feel better. I don't do free writing I guess the way you mean it but I do enjoy just coming here and posting to discussions to make me feel less stressed

There are many of us here who are actively posting back in myLot everyday, that would say we are actively posting in here to relieve stress. Coming in here and being able to talk and share about life, and life's problems as they pertain to us helps teach us we are not the only ones going thru this, and thru time, Prayer and Faith everything will be OK.

I do this a lot. If its too personal for here then yes I write it in my journal. Then when I feel like it I go back and read what I wrote later on down the road and I find myself being grateful that things got better from that point. It is a stress reliever big time!

I like that description better. Freewriting sounds so much better than stream of consciousness writing. I’m not sure they are the same.
Stream of consciousness writing’s intention is to provide a comparable dialogue to the stream of a fictional character’s consciousness.
While writing for myself I’ve always considered it to mean just put it out there as you are thinking it.
The term stream of consciousness discription made me think people that do write freely don’t think and people that don’t use it don’t have a consciousness.
I also like freewriting.

Yes, I write sometimes when I'm very stressed. I write down my thoughts and my feelings and then I feel relived. I usually keep the papers but I don't read them again. It's just my way of taking out of my mind all my problems and sometimes I do that before going to sleep. It really helps!

Writing is one way to relieve my stress. This is my own way of expressing my feelings. There are times that I write my negative feelings towards others, although most of the time, I am not posting it. That thing would be enough for me to be relieved.

I do! I find my laptop or even my notebook a very good listener: it never talks back or tell me I talk too much lol!
Seriously, writing down my thoughts relieves me so much of the pent up feelings and it makes me come into terms once I've let it out. I do have friends who are willing to listen to me, but there are just some stuff that I think are better unheard. Los, I find that I am more expressive when writing simply because I'm not that much of a talker. Also, I can write whatever it is in my mind without fear of being shunned since in free writing anything goes.
