Why do Pap Smear and ECG fall under Optional Examinations for Women?

We just had our annual physical examination (APE) yesterday and still wondering why women under 35 years of age are not required to undergo ECG and Pap Smear. Are those test really not intended for women below age 35? What happened was a colleague of mine entered the room yesterday and asked me, who was also waiting for my turn, if the line for optical exam is still long. I answered yes and suggested that she could do pap smear first because there is no line there so she can maximize her time. She looked like she was offended by what I have said and told me "Do I look like 35 years old?" and leave the room. I do not understand why she felt that way.

These examinations are essential for women, I don't think it is an optional procedures. She might be having dilemmas, try to understand.

That is true, I know that too that is why I suggested that to her. But to tell you honestly, I saw the memorandum posted in our office and they really said that this procedures are really optional and for 35 years old and above only. I think that it isn't right since you still have to wait until your 35 to find out if you're having problems down there. It should be monitored annually so we could prevent some problems to get worst. You are so right that this should not be an optional.

wow, i would not think that you were calling me 35yrs old if you said that. women should get pap smears as soon as their sexually active and if not id probably say around 21 at least... this is a more important one than ecg in my opinion just because of cancer or other disease and heart problems generally show up later in life or take a long time to develop. though i think everyones health should be a priority and these should be offered and hope women will take advantage of that but you have to take control of your own health. hmm i never heard of someone being offended though!

That is why I am still wondering why she has to react that way. I am 30 and has undergone pap smear before. I am thinking if it is because a memo was farm out and it says there that ECG and Pap Smear are only for women 35 years and above. I still don't understand why they have a rule like that.
