in the philippines, the schools all over the country are having a nutrition month celebration. oh well, the students are required to bring fruits that are available in their backyard and also vegetables. they must cook a recipe that full of nutrients and minerals. they will sell their products at lower prices for those who wants to buy. the essence of this celebration is plenty: the students will get oriented with fruits and vegetables with nutritious contents and they are being taught how to cook foods and at the same time, they can earn as well. they will learn cooperativeness too. what about to the neighboring countries all over the world, do you celebrate nutrition month too? let us know also. thanks

Yes the schools celebrated nutrition month last week and the streets are always filled with children parading in uniform with different kinds of vegetables and fruits in their hand. It was an enjoyable sight. I also saw that after the parade they were given free meal. However when I came close to the feeding area I saw that they are feeding them champorado. I wish they prepared something healthier than champorado.

Yes dear that's what I mean. Pospas with vegetables is a lot lot more nutritious than champorado which has chocolate and sugar. Well anyway, budget is always the problem but if there is a will there is a way. It's for the health of the student so that should be their number one concern.

oh yeah - right at that. there are different ways to have a nutritious food. just need to think of a better idea what kind and how to do it in a way that it is healthy but affordable. well, we can find that vegetables in our surroundings for malunggay is to be seen around so as to have green leafy vegetables. if we have chickens being raised in our house, we can have one for mixing. gee, sort of ideas like that. thanks for posting back

maybe they were out of budget. to say that most of the feeding activities were being prepared by the parents of the students. and to say the living status economically were below average, a sad fact, eh?! so that is why, they prepared a food like that. but still you are correct, for they can cook other nutritious recipe aside from that, for example: pospas with vegetables and little amount of chicken meat to it. they must be creative and be initiative if they really want nutritious food for the kids. :) nice of you that you included picture along. thanks

It's a nostalgic thing reading this discussion. I'm from the Philippines and I experienced celebrating that during my grade schoold days. We are obliged to bring vegetables and in return our teacher will give us a glass of milk. It really pays to inculcate nutrional infroamtion to the young really. Thank you.@missjahn (4572)

haha! glass of milk? ah, a great reward. they tried to make it more meaningful and fun today. they have a mini market in their booth as they displayed their products (vegies, fruits, even fish and such) for sale. in the school where i worked last is that they assigned a certain recipe to every year level and then judge it who cooked it the best. it was so nice seeing a booth with lots of colorful fruits and vegetables. thank you ;)

yeah you're right..im also from the philippines..i remember when i was in grade school, whenever we celebrated nutrition month, there's always a slogan making contest where you have to write a quote about the essence of nutrition and also poster making contest where you have to draw the difference between good nutrition and bad nutrition.i don't think other countries would do such programs in their schools like that. That's what i know..

they are having this booth that they can display their goods which one does have. aside from slogan or poster making contests, they have a cooking contest. they need to decorate their both nicely to win the price of being the nicest both among all. if the students would win, im sure they are so proud and happy of the achievement they might take. gee, like of those times before when we used to celebrate this celebration as well. hi there
