I remembered this joke from school, about 2 Filipinos communicating with each other using only 1 syllable, repeatedly.
The plot was at the elevator door, and a guy was waiting to get a lift to the ground floor. As the elevator opened, here was the quick conversation he had with another guy inside the elevator.
Guy 1 (from the elevator door): "Bababa ba?"
Guy 2 (inside the elevator): (nodded) "Bababa."
And, then he got in the elevator.
Funny how Filipinos can communicate this way.
Do you have other funny and peculiar examples of this sort?
For the sake of my Lotter friends who are non-Filipinos or don't understand Filipino, here's the translation of the dialogue.
Guy 1: "Is this going down?"
Guy 2: "Yes, going down."

Funny indeed, my friend. But that's how the Filipino language is and how some can really understand one's way of speaking.

With the many dialects used around the country, its funny that some words from one region means something else in another. Especially those words that have "green" meaning - if you know what I mean.

I have heard a joke about this situation that a foreigner overheard two Filipinos conversing this way (using only one syllable) and the foreigner said are "they aliens?" hahaha!

That's a funny comment from a foreigner. Yeah, i would probably also think the same way if I was a foreigner hearing this conversation.

Oh, if you're in the Philippines, we are so fond of repeating syllables in our vocabulary. Even in names. A lot of us have nicknames that are composed of repeated syllables, like "Ging-ging", "Sam-sam","Bebe","Ai-ai", etc..
