Best Responses

I am going through all my unresolved discussions and awarding Best Responses, and while I was doing it, I had the thought, "Wouldn't it be great if we could also award Worst Responses". Yes, I know we have the negative button, but I am a great believer in publicly outing wrongdoers, and it seems to me that this would be a way of doing that in a small way. What do you reck0on, can we lobby the powers-that-be to give us this button? Lash

Oh my...I would be devastated to get a "worst response." I guess my biggest concern would be the potential for abuse it would offer. Even the negative and report button have been known to be pressed in a passionate kind of emotional state I have seen responses that have irritated me a bit..some that I could not even address. I guess it could be in order on particular occasions, but I think, at the same time, they publicly out themselves.

Well, I'm not really serious, too much chance for abuse, but even if we did have it, I can't conceive of you writing anything that could pass for a worst response. Lash

The problem is one of subjectivity. We can praise and even if we praise the wrong person we can still be seen to be making a positive mark. The problem with a worst response button is one of negativity. In some ways the worst response would be a cop out. Perhaps on a discussion site it would be better to discuss your objections to a response rather than just blackball it. I also wonder what you mean by wrongdoers? Would it be the contents of the response or simply a pet hate, a split infinitive for example?

I must admit I was thinking of those responses where the poster has clearly not read anything but the heading and made a completely inane and irrelevant answer. But I'm not really serious, I don't think this button would be a good thing at all no matter how often I find myself gritting my teeth and fantasising barrels of boiling oil. It would be a very negative step. I was merely interested in seeing what sort of response the post might get. Lash

Boiling oil? Why didn't you mention that earlier? I commend it to the house!

Can I have a worst response for the above comment please? I think that it really deserves it. It is equally as bad as some others I have seen here by certain members who think that they are going to earn money for such stupid comments. I don't think that they would ever bring in that option. This site tends to ignore anything negative by just deleting it and moving on. They only want us to give energy to nice behaviour, which I can understand. People getting negative feedback would only turn into arguments.

Grandpa, take it easy...calm down, okay? I think it's better to have positive buttons than negative ones. They say, don't do unto others what you don't want others to do to you. We are like a family in here. we have to help each other out by responding and commenting in a good way. Posting negative responses can surely cause anger to another, but yes you can just push the negative button but i think there's no need for worst response...how bad is that... Admin can just kick them off if they are abusing the site, right?

If you had followed the guidelines and read the other answers before engaging fingers, you would have seen that far from needing to calm down I am not being serious. There is too much room for abuse in such a buutton. I am playing Devil's Advocate. Lash

Good day! I think responding negative things aren't beneficial to the readers. I do believe that mylot is created to give inspiration to the reader/user. If you feel negative and you can read negative things then the feeling will become worst. Another destructive criticism will not encourage someone's potential to grow.

Hello In my opinion, I think it's not good to put "Worst Response" because it may hinder other people's ideas or opinions. We are here to enjoy. Enjoying while learning. We have different point of views and we should respect other people's way of thinking.:)

I know what you mean and what sort of responses that you are referring to. There seems to be at least one in every discussion that either doesn't read the discussion or just responds so lamely. Still, I think such a button would open the door to abuse. You would get those that give worst response to those that they just don't agree with. I know that I would of gotten it a few weeks back to that girl that "thought" I was being "hostile" when hostile was the furthest thing from my mind.

From my point of view, I think it's best not to have a "Worst Responses" award. As you know, you cannot please all people. It may create conflict within the mylot community. For example, you know someone in the mylot community, but then you don't like him, and so we will rate it as worst response, then this person would react and would comment again in your discussion.. This would create conflict, its more great to just have Best responses..but hey, that's my opinion, and i respect yours. It's really up to the mylot admin if they will support your suggestion. :)

Hmmm ... that is definitely an interesting concept, but I think that it would encourage too many people to respond in a way that would not be beneficial to the site. I mean, you know that there are those of us that will write "off the wall" comments just to try to collect as many "worst responses" as we possibly can, and how would that look for the site?
