The Superstitious and Paranormal. Do You Believe In It?

Some people are superstitious about a lot of things, walking under a ladder, or stepping on cracks in the sidewalk. How about good luck by throwing a penny in the water and making a wish? Then of course is the paranormal, the ghosts, and eerieness that the universe holds. Do you believe in such things, or do you find them to be just talk? How about this 2012 prediction of the world ending on December 21st, do you really believe in it? What are your experiences with the superstitious and paranormal?

I tend not to believe in superstitions. There have been a lot of predictions for the end of the world but so far we're still here. I have read that many Mayans living in Belize feel that the real meaning of the ancient Mayan calendar is that there will be a new age. I haven't had an paranormal experiences but I would rate paranormal activity as being very different from superstition.

When things go wrong, some people like to blame superstitions when there might be other, more real explanations.

The paranormal is very interesting. I will be honest, I have had at least 4 paranormal experiences happen to me, and they were each unexplained. I'll never forget them. As for the Myans, I also heard it's just a new age. Superstitious things may be just fears or ways that people deal with some things.

Growing up in a country where people still believe in superstitions and old wives' tales, I know quite a few of these. While I do not entirely believe in each and every belief that has been passed down to us from our grandparents and parents, I do not exactly scoffed at these. While some have scientific basis even though the explanation is quite ridiculous, I see no harm in trying it out. One example is that going out at night after you took a shower or bath is forbidden as you might offend the sensitive olfactory senses of the "spirits" and they might cast you a sickness. For me, going out in a cold chilly night air after your bath might get you colds due to the temperature.

Wow. Those are intersting superstitions. It must depend on how people see things, but it is true if one goes out after a bath on a cold night, they get sick. It's just the fact that they went out into the cold after bathing.

No, I don't believe in that... at most I believe in something supernatural, a supernatural power existing there (instead of gods), but nothing else. I don't see the sense of them.

I had this discussion a couple of days ago. I totally don't believe in superstition. But I don't dismiss it as well. I just don't live by it because I believe it is holding back people to move on with their lives because of fear which sometimes is unreasonable. I've heard it many times that the world is ending, I wouldn't preoccupy myself with that to be honest, those who are concerned are those who are afraid to die.

I often have this discussion with my husband. He is superstitious, which drives me insane, but you are right, some things should not be dismissed. Sometimes things happen for strange reasons and sometimes not. I think the whole end of the world theory is just that a theory, yeah someday it will end but you're right, why preoccupy with that.
