when i was in high school, i have a younger brother who was five years old at that time and was being enrolled as grade one. he do not know how to read yet, and we his older sisters taught him how to read. when i am the one who do the teaching, every mistake word he reads would be his punishment till he will cry for us to stop the session. and when i approached him, "Jason, come here, let us read now", he will run to my mother and cried and pleaded her that it would not be me who do the teaching because i will just spank him if he do not know the words. if i remember the face he made when he cried, i can really laugh and so crazy of me to did that because of impatience. so now our brother have grown to a young lad and hopefully he is always safe in his works. God bless him what about you, what experience you can share pertaining to your brother and sister?

I have thought my siblings how to read and write except to my other brother because we only have an age gap of 1 year. I could say that it is pretty hard because I remember that I would usually lose my temper when I have thought them the letter G already and when I mix all the letter, they would say it is letter C. I don't think I can a be a teacher because I usually get really angry and would scold them for not remembering what I thought them. My siblings would usually cry when I do that and will no longer listen to me so I would be very angry. Good thing my other brother is always watching and would take over if he sees that I am getting angry again. My youngest sister is special so it is very hard to teach her. My brother on the other hand is a happy go lucky person and would not really bother listening or study.

haha... it is not really easy to teach whoever to read, more, if you do not have that special skills and knowledge what kind of strategies are you going to inject the retention to the child to their memory. the reading strategies before are different compared it now. before it was syllable by syllable process but now it have taught like teaching the students the sound of a consonant and vowels alone or if being tandem together. gee - not so easy.

That is true, it so hard to teach them so I really did not expect that comics and karaoke would help them read. It may sounds funny but they actually learned so much from that. I thought that my brother is just faking when he is reading comics because he would just usually based what he reads to the drawing and would make up stories about it. Karaoke has also help a lot. When they hear their favorite songs over the radio and we would play them on karaoke and they will sing that although at first they can't really read the lines. But later, maybe they have memorized the words, they are able to determine the words and read them.

so those thing had something to do about reading. why not? it is like instructional materials that helped them how to read. at first that familiarization helped them to be able to identify what kind of words being seen on the comics along with what they heard on karaoke. well, actually it really works for them.

I never experience teaching my brother because I don't have one, but I do have a niece in which has a learning disability, unfortunately everytime I came to their houseshe started to cry and shows her tantrums because we are going to study. She is now on her way to 6th grade and yet still no improvement.. So I just hope her parents would be patient to tach her, because I can't because of my work..

at least you exert effort to teach her how to read. before our father taught us how to read. we tried to recognize the words not to get spank because he was so strict. i have nieces and nephews too but thanks God they are fast learners that we did not encountered such problems like that. they only need guidance on their study habit because you know, they still would like to play.
