Mixed Response To Opening Ceremony

There is a lot of mixed responses to the opening ceremony for The London Olympics. Some observers loved it while others hated it. Most of my co-workers did not care for the opening ceremony. I was watching my favorite talk show this morning and they were really coming down on it. They felt it was one big disaster.
I found it somewhat disjointed. It did not seem to flow very well. Some of it was very interesting and attractive but I did not understand what was going on some of the time. It seemed to be very experimental or avant garde.
I loved the cameo of The Queen and the skit that occurred around her presence. I really think she is a grand old lady.
How did other mylotters feel about the opening ceremony?

I miss it....huhuhuh
I was on work when the opening ceremony started. I would love to see if given a chance, i can't really comment if it was really amazing or not. Some say its good while others say it lacks more excitement. Well, for me as long as the true spirit of sportsmanship is being follow in the games, then it is okay. Olympics play a big factor for the peace of all nations of the world. :)

I was at work also. I saw some of it very late at night and then I saw some replayed in the middle of the night.
I am not a sports fan but I do watch some of The Olympics. I like the diving and swimming. I love the gymnastics, especially the females.

I think it was lovely! I was grateful that the commentators who told me What I was seeing! It wasn't as pretty as Beijing but it was British! I loved the bit with the Queen and Daniel Craig! And How the torch was lit! And the fireworks at the end.

I am glad that the ceremonies worked for you and you enjoyed them. I also loved the skit with the Queen. I would like to be able to see some or all of the opening ceremonies again. Some is certainly available on YouTube as well as elsewhere on the internet. I also have digital cable TV and I may be able to find it on Demand.

I thought it was an excellent opening ceremony. Of course, I think Beijing was better, but still Danny Boyle put up an Anglo version of opening ceremony and there were original British elements like the famous British humor with the Queen snippet and Mr. Bean snippets.
I think the beauty of an Olympic Ceremony is in being original and bringing the elements of the host country to the forefront. So on those aspects, the ceremony of London Olympics was good.
Cheers!

I love all the different mylot responses to my discussion. It is pretty much just like what is going on in the real world. There are a lot of different opinions about the opening ceremonies. Some loved it while others hated it and there are a lot of in betweens. I did not see them at the most opportune time for me and would love to see them again another day and time. I am hoping to see it replayed on TV but if not, I will search for it on line. I am certain that I can get some youtube videos and maybe even hulu.

I can not because it seems that I am always working during the opening ceremonies and always see just part of it. I saw this year's opening ceremonies replayed at 1:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. I was very tired, forcing myself to stay awake and not having a very good time.
I would love to see the opening ceremonies again during normal daytime or evening hours. I hope that NBC will re-broadcast or put it on my digital cable on demand. It is not yet on demand. If this does not happen, I will watch videos on You Tube. I assume that there are videos on You Tube although I have not yet checked.

I think you hit it on the nail when you described the ceremonies as being disjointed. I myself felt that it was. It's like different people prepared different things and mix them altogether. There were good and exciting parts, but there were some dull ones. I guess I was expecting something else. Something more lively and apt for athletes. I was somewhat also hoping they'd feature some medieval things or stuff which pertains to the monarchy. I love the fireworks though.

I did not know if it was me or not because I had been working. I was tired and forcing myself to stay awake and watch the ceremonies. But then, I began to read and hear negative reviews and comments. I think you also hit it on the nail when you said that it was like different people prepared different things. It was a sort of miss-mash.
I would like to see the opening ceremonies again when I am not so tired.

Personally I loved it. It was a great celebration of British history, achievement and humour, which is probably why some viewers around the world didn't 'get' parts of it. I thought the Queen parachuting in was a stroke of genius, and the Rowan Atkinson interlude. The only bit I didn't enjoy was Paul McCartney's stint. His voice is going - it's time for him to retire and concentrate on animal rights.

So nice to see you back on mylot.
My memory is that you are British but living in Spain. I am glad to be getting the viewpoint of a Brit.
I think you are correct that a lot of viewers "didn't get it". For myself, I had to work and only saw the last 45 minutes very late. I stayed up and saw some of it replayed from 1:30 a.m. until 4 a.m. It was not the best time to watch the opening ceremonies. I was extremely tired and forcing myself to stay awake.
A lot of people felt that Paul was a letdown. He is a senior citizen who had a good run. I do not know if he should be retiring but his solos do not work well anymore. His performance was boring.

I missed the opeing ceremonies! It was on when i was still at work! I was bummed! I did see some of the high lights involving the Queen and lighting of the torch for example. I heard about some of things that happen that no one seemed to understand until it was posted on the interent the next day! My favorite part of the opening ceremonies has always and will be the Parade of Nations! I love seeing all the nations that are repersented! Of course I hear and learn about countries I am not familar with or never heard of! I work at a college and I have meet students from around the world. I love seeing their countries being repersented at the Olympics! Countries like China,Japan,South Korea,Kenya and Malawi! Maybe I will catch the next opening ceremonies in two years at the winter games!

I always love the opening ceremonies but usually have to work and miss most of it. Like you, I love the Parade of Nations.
I only saw some of the opening ceremonies this year which is typical for me. I would love to be able to see most or all of them again. I may be able to catch some of it online or on my on demand cable TV.
What I did see of the opening ceremonies was very late at night or in the middle of the night. I was very tired and could not fully enjoy what I was seeing due to my own tiredness.

I really liked, even though I lost the first 30 minutes of the ceremony. I really liked the part of Rowan Atkinson, I have to say that I never really liked the Mr.Bean show, but it was the funniest part of the ceremony. I also liked the part of Beckham in the boat!

I never really saw all that you are referencing or I do not remember seeing what you are referencing. I was watching a replay in the middle of the night from 1:30 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. I was very tired and not enjoying myself for the most part.
I do remember seeing Beckham in the boat. I remember the skit with the Queen and other segments.
I hope that I will eventually be able to catch most of the opening ceremonies again on NBC, if they will replay. Otherwise I will have to turn to my computer and watch videos on You Tube.
