I'm on my way

Yesterday was my Birthday. Hubby has been nagging me for weeks as to what I wanted. Then a postcard advertisement came in the mail and I had asked "Oh please can I do this?" I was for a gym that's only a few years old. You see I need to loose alot of weight and I know I cannot do it w/o the gym. But on the other hand I could not afford going to the gym plus paying for child care, gas, and so forth. Now that my youngest will be in school half days in fall I decided this was my opportunity to go. It is fairly close to home and his school and I wouldn't have to worry about child care if I went while he was in school. Plus it was about half of what they normally charge... it's a WIN WIN! Except I don't know how much time I will spend there til school starts as the special ends today.

The most difficult thing about starting to lose weight in a gym is that people forget that the weight they want to lose did not get there over night, it takes
major life style changes and a lot of time to lose it. Blessings and good luck.

I think just getting thru the door and finding an opportunity to go is an amazing feat for me. I know it's a life style change, I've been eating healthier for the most part and seen no results I needed to do this. I know this weight didn't come over night I had most of this the past 20yrs and I'm not old, it's gotta go before my health suffers for it.

Good for you! Most gyms have free child care while you work out, you should see if this one does.
I'm rather frustrated at the moment. At my last 2 doc appointments I'd gained more weight than I expected. Actually in the 1 month between my doc appointments I'd gained 10 pounds!
So I started eating a little better. I cut out most of my junk food, brought healthy snacks to work like dried fruits and trail mixes etc. I wasn't really trying real hard to lose weight but we were going to the pool everyday and I was swimming a bit, etc.
So a couple months go by and I figure I had to have lost a bit of weight during that time just by eating better and getting a bit of exercise. So I go to the docs last week.. I had gained another pound!! And it's not muscle gain because none of my clothes fit me better at all! Actually they're all feeling even tighter.
Hubby's convinced it's my meds, which very well could be. They're supposed to give me more energy and help me lose weight, but unfortunately weight gain is also a side effect.
I have to go see a specialist to switch my meds again because the ones I'm on aren't working too well. Unfortunately the specialist is on vacation until the 8th, so I have to wait until then.

How about inquiring first at the gym? I hope you'll get a good schedule. It's your chance and I hope you will not miss it. Goodluck.

I think you should go for it too!
I mean, one needs to think about health too and if you feel that you need to lose a lot of weight then perhaps it's the right time to do so because you yourself are determined to lose it.
As you said, it's a WIN-WIN situation, therefore, grab the opportunity! What did hubby say?
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Happy, happy birthday!!
Losing weight has been a struggle for me, too, all my life. Weight Watchers worked great when I was in my teens but after I had children it all came back and I've struggled ever since. Recently I read a book, "Wheat Belly", that gave me the idea to give up wheat--or most wheat products, anyway--and I've actually dropped ten pounds in a month!!
I borrowed it from the library, btw. Now, that will slow down but I feel so much better and I sleep better, too.
Look at your gym time as if it is a paying job. Your wages are good health and a lovely figure plus the admiration of your husband and the pride of your children and your own self image. You can go to Goodwill and pick up any kind of clothing cheaply and not have to pick through the limited selection of large sizes. No more loose clothes to try to hide the fat. Think about that every time it's your day to go. Don't try to work out for an hour each time the first few weeks, be content with 15 minutes or so. Set small goals because if you get too ambitious you'll get discouraged. The important thing is consistency. In 4 weeks you'll notice some wonderful changes!
If you don't cut out most of your wheat products--and it is very difficult when you live with other people--cut out as much sugar as you can. A slice of bread will make your blood sugar skyrocket more than a Snickers bar, did you know that? And that's one big reason it's so hard to lose weight, especially with the gov't preaching 8-10 servings of "healthy whole grains" daily!
Okay, lecture over. I hope you get your membership. Make small goals and stick to them and by the time Christmas comes around you'll be many sizes smaller.

Go girl! Catch that chance while you have it. Like you said, it's a WIN WIN. Sometimes I regret letting chances slip by my hands, because when they do so, it might not be that easy to grab another chance you know. It's for your own good and for all the people you love too. Good luck and belated happy birthday. =)
