Hiya myLotters and friends! This is one special day that I have. Overwhelming greetings still coming in on my Timeline. This is the very first time that I received this much greetings from friends and relatives. This is also the first time I did spent this day in the office. Usually, I took special leave of absence. But today, I just don't know why I came to work even it's my special day. Do you usually take a leave of absence from work to celebrate your birthday or anniversary? ~~~ NEIL™ ~~~ 20120801 1600H

That's nice at least you've done something new for your special day. My birthdays are like normal day for me nothing special only when someone reminds me it's my birthday.

I usually always work on this special day. Being self employed I have to work or else I do not get paid! Even when I worked for a boss, I still went to work as it is just another day. I always did something special on the closest weekend though.

Agree with rawBill. If you are your own boss, you can have a bit of fun but you still have to work.

So, it's your special natal day, Neildc! Enjoy the day, even if you have to go to the office. Your wife can cook spaghetti or pancit or better still just buy so she won't get tired. After office, you can share it with the family! We have a birthday leave here at the office. Usually, i would take a leave on that day. The next day, my boss would blow me out for it. I like having birthdays, even if it makes me older. Yeah, thanks for FB because we are able to greet our friends and relatives on their special day, since it reminds us of them.

actually, we in the government service have 3 special leave credits that we can consume, in a year. you can use it anytime of the year without deducting them to the leave credits we earn. i usually take the leave of absent on my birthdays but today, i don't know why. lol really big thanks to facebook as without it, we cannot be reminded that easy with birthdays of our friends.

I always book my birthday off, and my partners birthday. Even if we don't do anything special for it it's still nice to have that time to relax and enjoy your birthday without having to worry about work etc.

that would also be fine with me, but sometimes, leaving a day off makes the following day loaded with more work so i rather spend the special day on weekend or any other day which will make me not to worry about the work load.

well thats completely understandable then. i'm lucky that i don't have a work load that would pile up. my work relies on the amount of people that come in day to day so i can take time off whenever, luckily lol! :)

saw the birthday cake. glad you had a blessed birthday. with lots of cheers from family and friends. it's a plus point for facebook... it gives notices when a friend is celebrating a special day or event in his/her life. when i was employed, i never took a leave of absence or a vacation off from work. i usually just wait out for the weekend to celebrate. now that i'm doing a business and a freelancer for a few years now, i guess i can take more time off on special occasions. schedules permitting, i try to avoid working on my birthday. but if it can't be helped, then i'll try to do some lighter stuff instead and take it easy even for just one day. happy birthday again! good thing i saw it early this morning while i was still doing some work, just before i went to bed.

hahaha, thank you so much myles... really so good to take a break from work during our birthday but talking about work load, it files up more when you miss a day and when you return to work the following day, you'll be sorry.

Hi Neil! And greetings are still flowing here! Happy birthday again! When I was still working, I don't take a leave during those special occasions. I just spend the day normal in the office, but by the end of the day I should treat my office mates! haha I think that's already a tradition in our office that time, that whenever someone is celebrating her/his birthday, we should treat our officemate for lunch or snacks! haha but its fun!

thank you so much ckyera. we do same here, a treat from all of us for the celebrant. usually a lunch for everybody. but recently, we all decided to share the budget, so when someone is to celebrate his or her birthday, one of the staff will collect money, so we have budget for lunch or snacks. we do this because not all of the staff are enable to spend big amount.

I never took a special leave of absence for my birthday when I was working. I congratulate you and you are lucky to be able to do that. In my country, they give you so many days in a year for special leaves and I saved them to take he children to the doctor if needed and things like that. I have always celebrated my birthday the Saturday after it. Then everyone I love can come and be with me.

usually, that's the way i celebrate mine. like doing some cleaning at the house or taking care of the motorcycle or spending almost the whole day lining up in the licensing office.

I'm one of the senior ones in the office so everyone knows my birtday. Luckily most of my birthdays falls on weekends so I get away with not having to give a treat to everyone but there were times that i reported for work and people just keep saying side comments for me to give a treat at a point that it's already annoying. The problem is, my birthday falls on a date a few days before payday so what's left in my pocket is just enough for fare and food allowance.

not everybody in the office can afford to treat the entire office with a meal or even the cheapest snack. not everybody in the office are rich so not everybody can celebrate that way. so the staff decided to contribute at least 50 bucks each time there is a birthday. just like "paluwagan" where one will collect the money for the meal or snacks, so everyone will celebrate with the celebrant.

Funny, this topic came to mind as a potential discussion. Anyway, I guess I will still be able to go to work even though there is a special occasion like a birthday or an anniversary. I think it is a matter of practicality. Many bosses wouldn’t want to get a hold on working tasks just because it is a special occasion for anyone. I think that some bosses will relent but adults have already had this mindset that we put business before pleasure. Turns out work is business and whatever left is a pleasure.

I've just started working so I'm not sure but if my birthday falls on a working day I think will take a leave. I think it's like a reward for myself or a gift for myself. Hehehe. Anyway I commend you for going the other way. I hope I can have the same drivwe to work as you have someday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Birthdays are something everyone always look forward to not because you're a year older but simply because another year has passed and you still continue to seize each day of your life. I love birthdays! I get to contemplate on things that had happened to me and things that I want to achieve more. I guess for your part, you can get to do all of this, plus having a party, after you get off from work. Don't worry, there's always a first for everything. You'll never know, something quite big is waiting for you at the office. Enjoy your day!
