Bought a new digital camera after 4 long years

It's been a while since we had a digital camera to use for our trips. Since, then, we've only been using my camera phone to take pictures. But, the phone is only 8MP, and the picture quality is not very good on prints. Finally, we've thought of getting a new one. I'm excited to start taking good pictures again, starting on our next trip.

In 2008 I bough my first digital camera. It was Olympus made 8 MP with 5x Zoom. I personally feel 8 MP is lot more tan enough. Only thing that makes a difference is the optical zoom. In the recent past this camera has been giving some problem hence I am planning to buy a new one. May be by the end of this year i will buy a new camera for myself.

I would say, cameras are really good buy. It's an investment, but its returns is priceless. Those memories captured in the photographs are irreplaceable. Our previous camera bought in 2007 was also an 8MP, and its still working, but I gave it to my sister.

Hhmm.. why does it seem like the 8200 worth camera has more features in it, than the more pricey one?

Wow, I had no idea camera phones had 8MP! My own is only a 2MP, I believe. The picture quality isn't too great, but I still love the convenience it gives me, especially if I don't have my digital camera with me. My digital camera is only a 7.1, but still, it takes some beautiful pictures. I don't bother to print them up from home though. I use an image hosting service for any pictures I want printed up. Have fun with your new camera! Happy mylotting!

Yeah, there are even other cellphones with higher camera quality. 8MP is mediocre. Real cameras still take better pictures than a camera phone.

thanks for the response jureathome. this is the exact information i was looking for. i was planning to buy a samsung digital camera as well but what's stopping me is the availability of their service centers. anyway, i still have the brochures that i got from the camera shop when i was scouting for a digital camera to purchase. my initial choices back then was between the following brands, ge, olympus, and hp as these were recommendations from friends. anyway, saw the display case of samsung and was really impressed with the units that they have. plus the price of the samsung cameras suited my budget as well. again, thanks for sharing. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Those brands are good, too. They've been in the market for some time. I think among those, aside from Samsung, I believe HP is most reliable in quality. There's a wide range of choices, don't worry, and Im sure you'll find a good one which suits your budget.

Hi there. We were working on a budget when we bought the camera, and the best we found at a price range of 4,000-5,000 pesos ($95-$120), was a Samsung camera that comes with 14 megapixels, 5x optical zoom, 2GB memory, etc. For me, what's important is the megapixels, because that very well tells of the picture quality. I saw another model worth 11,000 pesos with 16 megapixels, and there's not much difference between 14 and 16 mp. The memory can be expanded up to 16GB, so I can just buy another memory card if I need more space.

First birthday - I took this picture at Sofia´s first birthday. She was surroinded by her siblings
Having a new baby is a good reason to buy a new camera. I have a digital camera that is over 10 years old, but still helps me out at my grandchildren´s birthdays and on other occations. Of course, my youngest grandaughter has more pictures taken than the rest of the children.

Aside from our trips, its also fun to take pictures of the kids as they grow, so they also get to see themselves as babies, when they grow up. I love looking at my old pictures, since I was a baby on the crib, till I grow to be a lady. Im glad my mother kept all those memorabilias.

good for you that you already bought a new camera. Our digicam is going 5 years old already. We purchased that before we get married. Now there is a small streak on the monitor. We are already plannign to buy a new one. I already saw a good model and we are planning to get that after we already fully paid the netbook which will end early next year (thru credit card installment). I know that the price will be much lower compared to its price now.

Yes, during the end of the year, prices of gadgets are lower. Another is that there are some promos during this season.

Right, one at a time. Discounts are always there on gadgets, because of mass production. And, when you buy one in Christmas season, you can even get it at a much lower price.

We'll probably get a new refrigerator this year. Discounts are also good on appliances and other big home stuff during the holiday season.

Wow! It's really good to have your own camera when traveling. There can be nothing as precious as our memories. So we have to save them even in pictures. I was able to buy a second hand camera at a very low price. I am not very fond of taking pictures, but when we have to have our vacation last year, I was forced to buy. As of now, my daughter is asking me to buy a DSLR camera. She is fond of taking pictures. i hope I can buy that kind of camera in the future.

I think there are affordable brand new DSLRs available now. They sell the camera units in a lower price but its on the accessories where you have to invest more on. Like on lens, tripods, etc.. if you're the type who wants to get a good set of gadget for photography. I think its because of the growing demand, as many people got hooked in the hobby.

That's awesome! My wife and I waited forever to purchase one; we just got it back in June. We got tired of having to use our cell phones for pictures, too; it was just too difficult to take pics. This new camera that we just got has a screen facing the front of the camera where you can take self-portraits, making it easier for us to take pictures with one another. One of our biggest problems was not having enough pictures of the two of us and this camera solves some of that for us. Also, our phones were doing okay but we wanted better quality pictures. Our phones do not have flash or many other features that would help with the quality besides the megapixels. A couple of months in and it has definitely been a great investment!

I have to second that. We also have a hard time getting a picture of the two of us together, when we're on vacation and we can't find someone else to take our picture. That's a really cool feature you got there, with the front screen. I think I'll just use the free tripod that came with it and the timer feature so we can have a good picture together.

Digital cameras now are tagged as "the basic traveller's right". Yeah well, I just coined some words, but you get the picture. I also had mine recently so I know the feeling and the excitement to have a chance to use it.

I so agree, with you. And, its pathetic for travelers to not have one in their bags. Any type of camera would do, even black and white , but to not have one, is missing out the point of traveling and being able to keep the memories forever.
